What does the Tiny Energy Boos do?

The Tiny Energy Boost item's description states '+4 energy for your ammo weapons', so what does this do? 

I don't think the primary gun uses energy, I would assume the missile launcher uses missiles and the energy weapon isn't an ammo weapon.

There are secondary weapons and systems that use energy as a power source.

I've seen various weapons that use energy to fire.  Getting the Tiny Energy booster didn't give any more shots with the one I had at the time, though that could be due to not providing enough energy for another shot.  My confusion comes from the fact that given those weapons consume energy I would assume they're energy weapons, not ammo weapons.

I could have missed what they're specifically called when I picked one up, I'll have to check.

I bought one and it increased the energy I had about one for the current weapon I had (twin machineguns) so I guess the actual boost scales with your current weapon. That means I had one shot more per room with this weapon (which is not really much, it's a machine gun after all).
