Fun bit of Latin/Greek that I stumbled upon: Empyrean means "in or on the fire (pyre)"

I am seeing Empire => Empyre possibilities to double up word associations.

"Shattered Empyre" with quotes returns only 3 google entries as of writing this and could be interpretted as "broken, burning empire" without too much of a stretch. I'm not sure it is better than Empires in Exile, but it is more unique.

Well, its been fun checking in on this today. Hopefully it comes to a great conclusion.

Oh. So that's where "Empyrial Abyss" comes from in Dawn of War 2. I thought it was just a really weird spelling of Imperial.

So, if that name isn't taken, and you're trying to stay away from multi-word titles, Empyrean/Empyrial would be cool.
I can already tell this is going to be a roller coaster ride of disappointment.

"XXX in exile" makes me think of https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8QwkyKS3dng .

"Epic grand strategy", limited to 3 words, is nearly impossible to do without sounding generic. Maybe you should wait with the naming until the nature of the game is a little more clear, so we can go on from there? Anything with "Empire" in the title is pretty much as generic as it gets, you'll have to admit.

  • Different polities in varying states of conflict
  • Struggles of a formerly powerful group, now in refuge, to gain new power
  • Interactions between powers
  • Of Hexes and Empires
  • In which conflicting interests meet
  • Get down, and then get up again
  • Fallen to rise once more
  • In the grim brightness of the future, there is only diplomacy

Throwing in my vote for Age of Ashes. Sounded somewhat cool. Don't think it's too generic either.

A few more ideas:
Pax Diaspora.
Exiled reich.
Ashen Reich.
Twilight empire(s)*.
Emperor of Ash.
Vanquished Empires.

* Appears to be taken already, even when considering horses, vampires, or ponies. If you know what all 3 references are about, then hurrah for you!

I found a few more words invoking feelings of 4x: Enclave, Exclave, Dominion, Ascendancy, Citadel

Eve of an Empire
Empire Exclave
Shadowfall Empire
Phoenix Exclave
Phoenix Enclave
Dominion of Ash
Prime Dominion

I like Pax Diaspora. It rolls of the tongue and also has the nice +5 Latin Bonus.

How about Empyrean Ascent? It's getting late, so I can't think of any more names until tomorrow.

Thought of another variation: Pax Iritha. 1st page conversation leads me to believe that "Irith" is the name of the game's setting, thus the play on "Pax Romana" AKA the "Roman Peace."
I can already tell this is going to be a roller coaster ride of disappointment.

Another potential: Age Of Starlight

Also, I've added a poll for the top contenders.

Something that would grab my attention most are names that follow the pattern of <Foo> Empire (single Empire, not Empires). Names like Shattered Empire and Vanquished Empire (out of those two I think I like Shattered better). This evokes the image of something that was once great and was lost, that you  as a player must now rebuild.

Other possibilities along this theme:
Lost Empire*
Fractured Empire
Ruined Empire (I think I might have suggested this before)
Fallen Empire
Collapsed Empire

* (I think I like this one the best, but unfortunately some game I never heard of was apparently called this... jerks).

I really like Starlight Emperium. It's fresh, somewhat catchy, and immediately piques my curiosity.

The reason I dislike Empires in Exile is that it reminds me too much of the title of a generic RTS or TBS game made in the early 90s such as "Dune Wars", "Cosmic Conquest", "Age of Empires" etc.

I think you'd have more success appealing to a modern audience.
