Name our upcoming 4x (best - Stars Beyond Reach) POLL 10/27

Voted for Strange Sun. It seems a bit short, as if the start had been cut off, but that's probably down to my preference for long posey titles.
I thought of suggesting 'under a strange sun', but then people would probably complain that you're ripping off beneath a steel sky.

Under a Strange Sun isn't horrible, and it says something about the nature of the game as a 'terrestrial 4x.' And people are going to complain about anything anyone does.

Some dumb alternatives:
Under an Alien Sun
Alien Sunset/rise
Strange Sun: Time of Ashes (if we're still doing the ash thing)
Something Eclipse Something

I'm back from the wedding weekend!  All went great.

In terms of this thread, right now Empire: Age of Ashes is still my pick.  It's not the top pick of the group as a whole, but it has elements from what everyone seems to like the most.

Ew, a colon title. With "empire" and "age of". Certainly the titliest of titles, but also one of the most cliché'd.

Won't the name "Empire: Age of Ashes" become a problem when it comes time to name expansions?
"Empire" by itself is extremely generic, so it'll be harder to find suitable names for expansions, and people won't necessarily connect the name of the expansion with Arcen Games' "Empire". If I hear "AI War: Vengeance of the Expansion", I know that I'm probably dealing with Arcen Games' AI War, whereas I could not say the same if I heard the name "Empire: Expansionist Expansions".

Yeah, I'm back to no-vote again. I'm sure all of these would be fine, but none really stand out.

Having "Age of" and "Empire" in the title seems a little too much. And Chris had the earlier comment about avoiding multipart titles which goes against the current best as well.

 If you are back to allowing multipart titles, there are way too many options to be as generic as Empire: Age of Ashes

as much as i like Empire in Exile, i think it may sound too much like Empire Earth, or some of the other 'Empire' titled games.

Of all the ones on the list i think Strange Sun is the most different from what has been out there before. I do really prefer something like 'A Strange Sun'  or 'Under A Strange Sun' that someone suggested, but really that is up to chris and company.

Anyway, just a thought,

By the way, since you won't be doing an "Exodus of the Machine", then how about an "Exodus of Empires"?

That title somehow got me thinking of the Aeneid, and by extension Homer, so how about an "Odyssey of Empires"?

Or perhaps an "Exodus Under Strange Suns" or an "Odyssey Under Strange Suns".

I voted for strange sun, but mainly because Empire: XXX Is a really bad title for use in a search engine and short hands to EAoA ...

I am no fan of long titles by the way. They make it less memorable which is the whole point of a title.

Short, unique and concise is how you name things imo. Strange Sun - The new 4x from Arcengames...

If it's sci-fi I think anything with Empire will wake absolutely wrong expectations.. what's the first thing that comes to mind when you read empire (no matter what else is in the title?) for me that's Age of Empires, Empire Earth, Empire Strikes back. Star Wars Empire At War..... and... Empire Total War, Empires of Steel, Lost Empire: Immortal (space 4x), Settlers 6 - Rise of an Empire... Glory of the Roman Empire... I think I pretty much got all of them Too much empire....

Domain/Realm ;p (Just different word/same meaning for empire)

In the end, I'd say just roll a dice to decide, because everyone's got different tastes.
If it were my game, I'd name it Entropic Sun or Black Sun or some variation of that. ,) But then that is probably super generic.. kinda glad I don't have to name games for a living heh.

Entropic Sun and Black Sun are both really good!  And yeah, we don't usually have this much trouble naming our games.  Sigh.

Man, I can't even name my own roleplaying characters.  Took me four months to come up with a name I was really happy with for one of them.  And I love him to bits; one of the best characters I ever created.
