Irith sounds like Irish with a terrible lisp.

To each their own; but I don't think it is a strong word for the title, no.

The Tree of Irith has a nice sound to it. Somewhat nostalgic and contemplative. Peaceful even, and can be taken many ways (doesn't give too much away about the game). It's also not the kind of title you would expect a 4X to have and quite different from Arcen's typical "at face value" naming style. I like it.

I keep trying to read it as "Irth."  As in a funny spelling of "Earth."

Thematically that would definitely work, but the name itself doesn't quite roll off the tongue the way I'd like.

One name I do like is "Shadowfall Empire", although it really does not feel very fitting to the scenario you described so far .

I thought that Shadowfall was a game, but I guess I was mistaken.  That's definitely a cool name, I'll have to tuck that away.  Actually, more than that: that's now the name of the SHMUP, it's perfect.  That will be absolutely perfect for that game, thanks for dragging my attention back to that word.

i liked Strange Sun, but also liked the Empires in Exile. Of the two i think maybe the Strange Sun sort of squeaks by for first place.

Voted for Strange Sun. It seems a bit short, as if the start had been cut off, but that's probably down to my preference for long posey titles.
I thought of suggesting 'under a strange sun', but then people would probably complain that you're ripping off beneath a steel sky.
