Chrono Empire might be very interesting if there were a specific emphasis on Time in the 4x play of the game.

* Perhaps if there were a descending timer in which to achieve certain goals? (x turns to win the game?) (x turns to kill 5 challengers?) (x turns to bring over 50% of the other empires into diplomatic discussions of peace?) (x turns to achieve +50% influence with 80% of other empires) (bring 5 empires into research parity by x turns) (subvert +75% of 5 empires economies, effectively collapsing their financial ability) (etc...)

It might be interesting to have these timers set by the player at the beginning of the game.
easy               =         +200 turns
normal            =         100 to 200 turns
hard               =          less than 100 turns
very hard       =          less than 75 turns
Misery            =          less than 50 turns

I am not sure this could fit in with what Chris sees for the game, but i mention it because i found it  intriguing to consider the player selecting how many turns they were competing against, and then feel pressured to perform under different game conditions from game to game. And for the different variety of conditions (other than battles)  to win the game.

Just my two cents though,  :)

p.s.  hope this is not out of place in the naming thread, if so i can delete the other stuff, just wanted to agree Chrono Empire could be cool if there were 'Time' stuff in the game.

Maybe even Time Travel?   :)  Now that might be a handful though.

Using "Chrono" in the title seems to imply time travel, which may not be what you want.

Maybe something like Imperial Ascension, or Imperial Ashes, to combine a few themes you've established already.

I can already tell this is going to be a roller coaster ride of disappointment.

Intrigue Empires

The caveat, there must be intrigue, and the game must be intriguing.

You know when you said the Lost Empire, I immediately thought of  'The Last Empire' (like related to The Last Federation) which you could turn into a series if you like... using The Last (whatever).

Or if you were living in California, it could be 'The Last What-Eva'   :)

I definitely don't want cross-confusion between the strategy games that we have.  Individual lores are important to me.  We handle "series" as expansions, mainly.

Computer Empire
Pioneer Empire
Colony Empire
Aero Empire
Aerospace Empire
Gene Empire
Mechanical Empire
Modern Empire
Electronic Empire
Silicon Empire
Technic Empire
Engineering Empire
Stealth Empire
Nuclear Empire
Cosmic Empire
Endless Empire
Deep Empire
Artifact Empire
Entropy Empire
Cypher Empire

Well then, I'd still go back to 'Empire in Exile' then.... sounds intriguing with the exile part. You will be making new races and a new history then? Sounds interesting.

It makes it seem more prehistoric rather than futuristic, but it's a good thought.  Overall we're trying to come up with something that isn't too stressful sounding, too.

Colonial Ascent
Empires in Exile -> Exiled Imperium (?)

Both have good mouthfeel and are descriptive. And they avoid the trap of alliteration.

Going with the more unique sounding things:

hmm, terrestrial... terra firma...something with fighting/fire...made-up words...

Terra Inferna
Terra Inferna: Chronicles of an Empire
Terra Inferna: Empire in Exile
Terra Inferna: Shadow Empire
Terra Inferna: Ashes of an Empire
Terra Inferna: Dawn of an Empire

There is a lot more freedom in adding tag words if you choose a unique name to begin the name with. Can get the best of both worlds (uniqueness and word association) You could pretty much use anything from all previous posts after the :

I was going to try to come up with multiple unique names, but I liked Terra Inferna and that is all I have for now.  :P

Ascent is something I'm feeling like is played out at this point.  It just is hard to say without a lisp for me, a bit, anyway.

Other forms of Empire are less interesting to me, except Imperialism, which is already a game.  I'm not saying I wouldn't do something like Imperium, but it just doesn't strike me as something I love.

I try to avoid multi-part titles for base games, because we add on sub-parts for expansions.  Right now AI War: Fleet Command is the only game we use with a subtitle in the main game, and it's something I want to avoid.

Overall I'm looking for something that:
1. Screams "grand strategy."
2. Doesn't sound generic.
3. Is ideally positive-sounding, but definitely is epic-sounding.
4. Is ideally 2-3 words, but could go longer if it's really awesome.

It's really tough!
