Gentlemen, as per known and dear Arcen fashion, the next Version seems to be putting quite some things on their heads. Districts, Factories, Shopping Malls, Building placement, RAM usage, lots of fixes, building Crime...but it's not here yet. I therefore open this thread to present a platform for exchange concerning the effects of the upcoming patch, and hivemind willing all patches after it.

Two things of greater concern to me:

1) Who is still playing .854, and who is waiting for .855?

2) How long until .855?

I for one am not playing anymore, since every single game of mine ends with a Crash; either during play or when saving. There was a time when 4 Gb of RAM were considered enough, you know.

That next version is today. I definitely don't blame you for not playing the prior version with the ram issues, I would not either!

I consider 8GB minimum for a PC these days.

The RAM thing in this case isn't really related to the amount of RAM you have.  It's like arguing over whether you have an 18 gallon or a 30 gallon gas tank when the tank is ruptured.  Either way you are going to end up stranded on the road, it's just a question of after how long and how hard of driving.

But yeah, single digit gigabytes of RAM are so last-decade. ;)

I'm just kidding around.

The interesting thing to me is how much RAM prices have fallen, though.  I mean, I got 24GB of RAM for less than what I once paid for 128MB.  24GB is excessive for sure, but 8GB of DDR3 is not too pricey.

The main problem is that if your computer isn't supporting the latest standard in RAM, then the cost of that RAM is inordinately high.  The latest stuff is cheaper, but the stuff from a generation or two back can cost twice as much.  So if you happen to have upgraded at just the wrong time and your motherboard is DDR2 or whatever, then you're kind of up a creek.

And if it's laptop RAM, then yeah -- holy smokes the money that can be involved there.

Well, there will be a replacement next year - so there is hope :D.

Yeah, I don't think I've upgraded laptop RAM since 2005 since it was always so bloody expensive.  Just getting a new laptop was always the better cost option all around.  Of course that can't be done super often, so then it's a matter of suffering with low RAM until getting a new laptop makes sense.  Blah.

Sooo...new Version when? I don't have any work on my desk right now, I don't want to get cracking on anything that I'll have to drop later on when the Update is out  :D

Ideally by about 1pm EST, or 2pm EST at the latest.  Knock on wood.  I am now going to start ignoring you all for a bit to make sure that happens. ;)

So from the time of this writing, that's 2 hours hopefully, or 3 at the latest.

personally I haven't been playing this game much mainly because every time I start a game I end up sooner or later coming across one or 2 bugs which end up making the game un fun to play in till their stabbed to death(not a persifick bug/bugs but just general bugs) that and door kickers has been sucking all my play time away I love that game so much I think by the time I'm 80 and being pushed around in a wheel chair ill still be playing that game 0_0

fishing boats - I want a reliable food source. An unreliable trickle isn't going to cut it. Either make it reliable or remove it. Aquaculture is a thing, so I'm not worried about the reliability of fishing.
Disease - The ramping up of curing rates is too complicated. Just have the initial outbreak be proportional to infection rate and have cures work at 100%.
District Limit - 1 + Social/2. This seems a little low, but we'll see. X + Social/2 is sounds more reasonable.
Shallow Mines - Just call them mines ;)
Crime Building count at 300+ buildings - I still think this is completely unnecessary.
LImited Range Scouting - I've always hated this. It adds complexity (is it within range). It doesn't really add much to the game rather than needing to bulldoze and rebuild the scout stations to expand their reach. Now, if you made scouting range proportional to transport range + X, that would be more interesting. Then I can just leapfrog helipads and teleport stations and my scouts can start their journeys from there.
Building Counts - So much effort has gone into this, and I still dislike the entire mechanism. Population Count or Total Tile Count should be sufficient.
Planetary Rage and Monsters - I still think generation should be roughly 100 fold what is now.
Turn order - I need to break open the end of turn logic and parse that function out, but I still think it will help.
RAM  - 3 gig is more than enough.
Note: This post contains content that is meant to be whimsical. Any belittlement or trivialization of complex issues is only intended to lighten the mood and does not reflect upon the merit of those positions.

Fishing Boats: Can Acutians poison the ocean?
Disease: Ramping up makes sense, sort of. But it's not that important to me.
District Limit: Can district centers be bulldozed?
Shallow Mines: Agreed, ought to be mines.
Building Count / Crime: Those soft caps feel somewhat unnatural to me. Like...who cares if there's another ten rural farms at the end of the world? How does that cause crime elsewhere?
Scouting: Yep. As it was so far, the system was very comfy to use. Limiting their range will indeed just have me bulldoze and rebuild them all the time. Would be different if there was fog-of-war.
Rage: So far, Rage seemed entirely harmless to me. Everyone teams up to kill the monsters as soon as they appear; and even without that they're not much of a threat.
