119K pop blob of a city.  Why, because I can.  :)

Opened your save. My computer wept. Switched to the ST planet and ship icons filled my screen, so I zoomed out. Game told me that it _was_ totally zoomed out. You could seriously walk from one end of the inner grav well to the other without getting your feet cold.

Nice.
I just got a chance to try the territories. It is different. I don't know how I feel about it yet. However, I do feel much more involved in the game. Perhaps it is due to the smaller world size.

Did you see our special mention in the 0.890 patch notes:

Not only that, this is something that made for visual problems because when you zoom out all the way to try to get a view of one of these huge maps, the buildings become impossible to distinguish. The land can be told apart, but there's so much empty space land all over the place and then buildings just hard to see. Either that or there are people spamming buildings like crazy into giant unsightly blobs awesomeness. It creates problems either way, because players should be able to feel like they are "building big" without having to place 60 residential buildings all in one blob. That doesn't look good, and isn't fun. Also, if you're going to have a city of 100k people, it feels like a sacrifice should have to be made... by one of your neighbors...

I don't like the smaller world size.  I feel cramped and hurried without reason.  It's to busy for me.

And yes, I saw the notes, hence the title of this thread :D

Oh, 100k is way easier to manage with the new rule set.  And way easier to achieve.  Follow the tooltips and your golden.

Regarding map sizes, I'll just copy what I sent Cinth in a PM response:

The smaller map sizes really are more reflective of the original intent of the game (having that Risk-like feeling of always being near everybody).  The reason I didn't have that before was because we needed big amounts of buffer space between players and other AIs in order to have the player not getting attacked constantly.  Now with territories and incidents and so forth, that's no longer really a concern, so I get to go back to the original Risk-like intent.  I hated how far away all the AIs were in the past, because I felt like I never saw them and had no reason to interact with them.  But I can definitely understand how that's a huge change in feel.  I imagine that having fewer AIs, and possibly custom map sizes, will be a thing in the future.  Though to be warned, custom map sizes that are larger will run like a dog

I complained about it on Mantis way back in the dawn of time, but I still think the amount of people in everything should be multiplied by 10.
So your City would be 1 million rather than 100k. Although that is still off scale.

That gets hard to read pretty fast, but your point is taken.  It certainly is more satisfying that way, I understand that.

It's understandable, and I haven't cared that much. Another alternative is to switch the "unit" of population to thousands, e.g., 1 is actually 1k people. The changes would all be in the labeling and thus less problematic. But then you have oddities with scale and such. An Condo complex houses 10,000 people? That would be bigger than many towns. Although I guess if the tiles we are placing are around 90k miles squared, then having 10,000 people living there is less crazy. Although if that math is right it seems extra sparse now. Or we can say that Planet is a lot smaller than earth.

Are we actually calling the planet Planet now? Please, I loved that about SMAC.

Also hi, been a while. Real world work is hell.
