Resource Effect Information
« on: June 25, 2015, 03:56:02 am »
So, with

*    Added tooltip to resources on inventory screen, stating which of your buildings are gathering and/or consuming the resource.
will we also get a tooltip that shows what the resource actually does?

Because even though I always go on resource harvesting sprees, I rarely ever bother to utilise them because I have no way of getting an overview of my resources' potential effects. I can build warehouses etc. and just try stuff out, or I can run all over the map and check the resources on-site; but the inventory window - where I can read how many of each I have, and which would thus be the most natural place to look them up at - gives me no information on the resources themselves.

Maybe this is already in and I overlooked it, in which case oops.

Maybe this is already done in the next version, in which case hooray!

Either way, I'm impatient and just going to forget I wanted this if I don't get it out now  :P

I tend to forget to use the resource because the "extraction" and the possibility of use is not possible at the same time (since the "use" require additional research).

True enough. Extraction is pretty much just easy money making and territory claiming; even though the latter is pretty much futile with all the passive rogues around.

When the resource use buildings come around though, the game tends to win itself even faster than before. Sudden *2 boni on most buildings; and stacked *4, *8 or even more on a critical few. My favourite is stacking science enhancers on the labs; the tech tree pretty much just collapses.

But then again; so does the entire game if you just click End Turn often enough.

I'm partial to that issue. On one side, it allows for shortening end-game, but if you don't get the "right" resources and if it ain't balanced properly, it might make the game somewhat of a rogue-like. Sometimes you can't win because you had a "bad" random draw, and sometimes the game is overly easy because you've had the "right" one at the "right" moment.

I'm personally hoping that new ideas for end-game and more active diplomacy / war balancing can change this. Currently it's missing, but I think it's "not done yet".

Some inclination on the part of the AI to actually prevent the player from overpowering them or ruining their planet would be a good start, IMO.

I tend to forget to use the resource because the "extraction" and the possibility of use is not possible at the same time (since the "use" require additional research).

Even if you have the right consumption building available, you can't select the resource until the extractor is completed. So if you place both buildings at once, you have to remember to go back and select the resource 5 turns later. It's not *as bad* an issue, as you have the empty reticule on the map to catch your eye, but I regularly forget all the same.

personally id love it if the inventory screen told you what resources(its never bothered but yea know) in regards to over all game difficulty I'm personally going withhold judgment in till diplomacy gets that love that its due.
