Monsters and critters and how do they work, oh my!

Hello - lame newbie here again.  Could some expert please explain the concept with monsters and critters that are all over the map?  How do they work.  I think you have to put a harvest containment on them, then a guildhall maybe?  Then what happens to them?  I haven't had a chance to try this yet.

Also - it was mentioned in another thread that we had monsters of our own.  We do?  Where are they, please, and how do I use them?

Are my monsters used as an attack force?  Something else?

Thanks for the tips.  So, what can we do with the resource points we extract from the resources?  Are they used to build certain higher level buildings?

I will check out the Monster Pit.  So, I found a Vice Viper that needed a harvest containment and guildhall.  So, that's not a monster?  It sure looked like a snake monster type of thing.

which you need to assign.

Both buildings are on the resource tooltip (so Harvester and Guildhall on the viper (I think).
It's quite intuitive once you've seen it once, which is why I filed it as a documentation/tutorial issue ;)

The inventory screen shows you how many buildings worth of a resource you collect, if it hasn't changed.
