*saliva drips from Chris's slack mouth as his glazed eyes scan the screen uncomprehendingly*

I'm still here!  Keith and I have both been up to our eyeballs in major, major performance surgery.  The less distractions the better during that, so I pretty much shut off paying attention to anything I could avoid paying attention to during that period.

I hope your neural implants have been repaired. I shudder to think what a lowly meat brain might do with an exciting array of sharp instruments and a sedated codebase...

This is very much a thing. I do my best work on weekends and holidays when email and IRC are quiet. (Working from home means I can shift my hours around and nobody really notices. Except my girlfriend, who sometimes gets sad. Until we go out for a picnic on a Wednesday afternoon when everything's quiet and pleasant.)

Working from home definitely has its perks, for sure.  Though I've largely missed out on all those since owning my own business; I had more of that ability to shift stuff around when I worked from home but for someone else!  What sort of work do you do, if you don't mind my asking?

I have several friends who run their own businesses, and they all agree that they have the worst boss ever. ;-)

What sort of work do you do, if you don't mind my asking?

I build mobile messaging systems, mostly: http://vumi.org/ is full of words and pictures, https://github.com/praekelt/vumi and https://github.com/praekelt/vumi-go are full of code. (I love that I get to show people so much of the code I write, and the openness of your dev process is high on the long list of reasons Arcen is one of my favourite companies.)

That is pretty much the case, yeah. ;)  The rest of my staff I treat great, but I am absolutely horrible to me, heh.

Wow, that is super cool! :)  Holy cow, that's quite a way to make a difference in the world, I'm impressed.

Yup, it does provide quite an incentive to get up in the morning. On the other hand, it can be hard to say no to yet another big project to save babies (literally -- we do a lot of maternal health work), so we often end up quite overworked. All in all, though, there aren't very many other things I'd rather be doing. (Except playing SBR, of course. For a few hours at a time, anyway.)
