German Localization
« on: June 23, 2015, 11:37:50 pm »
I'm currently trying to work on a German translation of the game (for fun and to see if it can be managed). I tested it already and it works ingame (to some point). I'm currently only working on the main menu and the UI because the descriptions of techs and buildings and the diplomatic section will probably get some serious changes.
Some known problems for a localization: Diplomacy. I don't know how the alien languages are mixed with the English language but I guess it would be a lot of work to get this going for German as well.
ÄÖÜ and ß are clearly missing entirely in the font. If you use anything of that all you get is a big _. I wirk around with ae, ue, oe and ss at the moment.
Some buttons with text use sprites instead of the ingame font, so they cannot changed without creating a new sprite.
Procedural generated market items. The German language works different as the English one and is a little more complex, therefor the generation of names will probably turn out a mess.

Since this is fan made and Arcen Games has already enough to deal with the game they shouldn't try to look for a workaround for the listed problems.

Yeah, those would be the biggest problems you'd encounter I think. Nice idea for a fun project, though. Viel Glück :)
