First attempt at combat and I failed miserably
« on: June 15, 2015, 09:37:31 pm »
Nothing really important here, just me grumbling and slowly trying to learn the game.

1.  I finally built some helipads, and used them to attack another races building.  That worked.  Do you always have to select each helipad one at a time and give them a target?  Is there a way to group select and attack?

2.  I then build some anti-air and countermeasures behind the helipads.  The next turn, the enemy proceeded to immediately wipe out the anti-air, countermeasures and all my helipads in a single turn.  The anti-air and countermeasures did not even do anything.

Moral of the story . . . I don't know what I'm doing, but I'm having a blast trying to figure it out.  I really need to figure out this combat thing.

That's it for today.  I think I have bugged Chris enough.  :o

na you don't there should be an attack icon on your build list selecting the helipad in that should let you attack much quicker(if that makes any séance)

Oh, so using the attack icon at the bottom of the left edge interface will select all of whatever you click, e.g. helipad, and all helipads will automatically all attack when you click on a target?

Is that how it works, vs. clicking on each helipad separately and giving each of them a target one at a time?

I would second your thoughts on combat, i am playing trying to figure out how to do things, so far, i have been able to figure some minor things out, like the 1 or 2 on the icons mean how many buildings i have, and other stuff i am still trying to figure out, like some of the tech tree discriptions not quite telling me, why i need this tech, some are obvious, others probably lead to other techs that are more important, also some probably help for diplomacy or wonder or spying or keeping our people from pulling out their hair and rioting in the streets.  :)  But I am not a hundred percent sure on some of those, just estimated guesses. But in the combat i got into with the burlusts when they came and visited me, i thought for sure, this is the end, i will have to start over, but after about 20 or so turns, after the took my power and my farms and my scouts and hazmats and hospitals and most everything else, but not quite everything else, they left me my housing and my people, mostly, some small number were killed, but thankfully only a few. also my cemetary and trash dump was not destroyed. Then the burlusts stopped, thank goodness.

So i started to slowly rebuild, with really putting more helipads in sooner, and more troops. I also finally figured out that i could limit my population so i could concentrate on other things, like building up defenses and scouts, but then the scouts were disabled, and i haven't figured out why yet, well, that is really not true, the tooltip says i was hit with a monster and it knocked my buildings off line, so i added some more power plants and am now waiting for the solar panels to finish building.

Anyway, i am having a wonderful time, like you, and trying to figure things out and enjoying it. I just hope i am ready when someone else decides to attack. Or if i try to invade someone else. We will see i guess.  :)

Combat Spoiler

Spoiler for Hiden:
The second button from the bottom is a "crosshairs" button which will give you a build style interface to pick your attackers from.

Clicking on something you want to attack will bring it up too.  Keep on clicking and the game will start hitting your target.  Right now you have to right click it off and left click back into the target to change to other weapons as you go.

Opened your save. My computer wept. Switched to the ST planet and ship icons filled my screen, so I zoomed out. Game told me that it _was_ totally zoomed out. You could seriously walk from one end of the inner grav well to the other without getting your feet cold.
