[Discussion] Adjacent Building Multipliers

0016786: Multiplicative bonuses for housing (at least) are currently way overdone
Description   While I definitely support more adjacency bonuses to decrease sprawl a bit - I really like the ideas in this version - currently they are way too effective - the entire population of a major city could live in a single condominium surrounded by 6 middle eateries, for example. 100 x 2 x 2 x 2 x 2 x 2 x 2 = 6400.

Simple ways of toning down would be by either a) reducing the numbers on those multipliers, especially for the same-building versions, b) changing the bonuses from multiplicative to additive (so that x2 actually means +100% to the base, giving 700 instead of 6400) or c) (and my preference) both. Natural Wonders should stay special with larger numbers, but I like the 1.3 on farms and water a lot more than I do the 2 on housing, especially multiplicatively.

My first that the bonus should be double the normal capacity if completely surrounded by supportive buildings.
So a Condo surrounded by ANY housing or dining buildings would get a x2 multiplier. However 1.0/6 = 0.167. However that's ugly math, so perhaps boost it to 1.2 or lower it to 1.15? And definitely additive.

I agree that it does need to be toned down a bit.

I loaded up my save game and went from about 12,000 housing to something like 78,000 housing with an incredable amount of it being of the upper levels. Still not approaching a proper city size, but it on the right path.

Farmland and energy adjacency bonuses are also too high. I really like the idea, but at the moment there's not much incentive to look for housing/food/power wonders because a handful of buildings next to each other can meet all your needs. At the moment, there doesn't even seem to be much incentive to use the higher-level farms and water sources.

Ya, the power levels are INSANELY high right now, before the patch I had about 51 000 power now I have over 1 million.
AI 1 = Chris.

AI 2 = Keith.

Just tested the new bonuses. Holy shi-, they are very op. But this is very fun, it gives me the feeling of a powerful being.

This also gives me the idea, why not implement a similiar sclaing option like in AI War? Give us an option that defines the strength of adjecant bonuses.

The current modifiers have been rolled back to more manageable levels. Chris also requested that we come up with a fuller list of buildings and adjacency bonuses. I think this is going to be a major force in creating interesting and meaningful cities.
