Cobalt fun
« on: June 09, 2015, 12:08:40 pm »
I built a handful of Cobalt Bomb Launchers, let the Thoraxians have one - after which most races immediately bent over - and subjugated a few others with conventional violence. I decided not to bother fighting the spire, so I generously let them have some more of the bombs until they were no longer. When I couldn't figure out where the Krolin were hiding their underground buildings, I nuked all their surface ones until they too decided they'd had enough.

All that remained were the Thoraxians. By now I have seriously nuked every hostile surface building on the entire map - which unfortunately means that I can no longer get out far enough to sonar scan some non-radiated corners of the world. I can seriously not find those last bugs.

Gah. I wish Cobalt Bombs could just target map tiles rather than buildings...I would've scoured every last tile of the planet and been done with them.

Any advice? I can just go for a Volcano victory or let the game keep running for a social one, but I wanted to go nuclear at least once.

Yes I had this problem in a past game on the mars map. Maybe a sort of "You abused the planet too much with cobalt bombs, and it is going to explode?"  :o

I think there's meant to be some kind victory condition with the colbat bomb isn't there? my memory is really hazy on that.

I've put this on our internal list to be fixed -- your victory progress is 100%, you have won the game.  Killing all the Thoraxians is not possible, nor required to win the game.  If you kill their queen's nest, they just pop up somewhere else.  That race is... special.  And hence them missing from the main listing of races to dominate.

That is one fearsome-looking map, haha.

How did you get multiple Cobalt Launchers. Last I knew it was limited to 1.

Well, I just built a bunch of them. I could've built more, too, but I didn't expect to need them.
Maybe the limit only counts once you've finished building one? I don't know.

Either way, with 6000000 energy per turn, even just one of them would have meant one extinction event per turn.

(opens save)

(zooms out)

"What happened here?"

Seriously, you set off enough cobalt bombs that it would save GPU to put green smog on the non-radioactive tiles instead.

For 0.898:

* Fixed a bug where the cobalt bomb and extermination/domination victory paths have never been possible because it was counting the thoraxians as needing to be dominated/exterminated, and those things never fully die.

Thanks :)

How cruel!

I for one only nuke the ones that don't give up AND are outside missile range!

I was referring to the OP's save, but somehow I get the suspicion that many of you wind up with maps filled with green smoke...
