[Discussion] International Incident
« on: May 19, 2015, 03:41:23 pm »
Current Rules:
Only AIs start them.
They finish... somehow.
The player can join them, but won't be the target of them.
There is a countdown of 5 to 10 turns, then AI Saucers show up at some location.
The location of saucers is marked for 5 turns before they show up.
The player can invite other races to join, for a price.
Thoraxians, Spire, and Boarines don't get involved.
Burlusts don't defend.

I'd like to see this developed more. Specifically, the Player starts out as the new guy on the planet. No one thinks he is a real race, so he doesn't get involved in International Incidents (II). Until the player either A. Joins 1 or B. Gets to be X size. Once that happens he is fair game for everyone (i.e., he grew up and now is an adult). Additionally, giving the player the ability to build his own Saucers would be nice. Saucers would be produced by building X, which takes Y turns to charge. It can only be launched when an II starts. Once launched the player has little/some/complete control over the Saucers. This would be getting close to having units in the game.

I actually was able to start an incident by attacking a race - but I am nitpicking here ;).

There's a lot more planned, and a few things there are missing bits, just FYI.

Sure thing. Just trying to get discussion frameworks established.

No complaints here.  Just clarification from my own end.

I am really liking how international incidents are at the moment. In 8.20 they were really buggy, 8.21 was quite a bit better and 8.22 is definitely the best. However, my one complaint right now so far is that once you get to the turn where the international incidents turn on, there are like 3 or 4 that appear right in that moment, but after those are over then there is probably only one every 50 turns or so.
AI 1 = Chris.

AI 2 = Keith.

I've also noticed that they come in waves. Not sure why that is, or if it is just coincidence.

As a new player, I have no idea what International Incidents actually do. I've been the target of some (like assassination attempt), but nothing appears to actually happen as a result when I end turn enough for them to 'finish'.

In .840 it's more or less the same for me (as opposed to ~.820 where multiple incidents targeted at me killed me before turn 60). I am roughly 400 turns into my current game as Krolin/Normal and have been as good as dead multiple times due to crime and disease - yet nobody knocked in my door to pick up the easy
prey.

It's actually a bit boring currently, to be honest...

Also does anybody else feel that it's weird that the defending races currently defend themselves using saucers instesd of buildings?

Given that many incidents currently target a bucketload of races with only one or two aggressors, most of them seem to perform... underwhelming.

At least most offenses that i have witnessed don't seem to go anywhere...

yea international incidents seem to have gone from apocalypse to cripple mainly because of the fact that the ai isn't really doing enough with their saucers.

I'm the target of one right now, as it happens. :P
