How do you get access to other races territories?
« on: October 01, 2015, 06:01:55 PM »
Currently my mission is to establish field study camps next to wonder, however all those said wonders are in other races territories and I cant figure out how to place them in other territories.

I don't know personally if I could id kill them and take their territory's if I wasn't being prevented from doing that by my pet bug to be honest though this seems like it might be an over sight.

You cannot.  There are basically two ways to approach this:

1. Beat on the AI and take the territory, then put the field study camp.  This is pretty brute force and the planet will give you lots of monsters for your efforts.  It's also bloody slow.

2. Find out what the race desires or fears, and do that to them a lot in the territory.  They will then give you the information you seek as a way of either placating you or saying thanks.

Unfortunately, there are a couple of issues:

- Firstly, there are not enough abilities defined yet such that all the races actually fear or desire anything that you can do.  So that will be hit or miss in terms of you actually being able to use this part of the game.  It's one of my main tasks for tonight/tomorrow.

- Secondly, there is absolutely nothing that bloody tells you about this, heh.  So even if that were working, you'd have no way of knowing this.  Given that, I'd definitely be interested in your opinion on how I might convey this information to players in a few places.  What are the places that you looked in order to try to figure this out?  I figure that it needs to be available in more than one spot, because different people will think of different places.  Where are the places you looked, or would theoretically look?

Thanks a lot! :)

My suggestion would be to put a note directly on the wonders during act 2. You could also put it on the main menu, the major notifications indicator, and the diplomacy screen.

I believe the problem is that diplomancy is missing and that you should introduce it at this point in the game. Waiting for linguistics didn't produce any expected results and didn't unlock any new features or gui elements so far for me. I caught a glimpse of the linguistics screen in the past and I was expecting some thing like that. Especialy since I was producing linguistic points. I was even expecting to have an option to focus my research on a particular race cause no all of my neighbours had natural wonders in ther lands.

I was also searching for a way to explore past the AI territories so how about a mutual exploration treaty that allows scout camps and field study camps.

Another idea in the spirit of some act 1 territory goals would be that the AI loves of hates specific building types in territories that are adjacent to him.

Good suggestions.

In terms of diplomacy, there is nothing new to unlock, per se.  Nothing new in the interface, although there are pieces of content that need to unlock (those are the international abilities I mentioned).  Basically you can do good or bad things to your neighbors using the abilities, and they react to that.  They will do good or bad things to you as well.  Somewhat "implicit diplomacy," although words are exchanged.  There are a few bits that are more explicit later on, but mostly it's a matter of choosing how to interact with them, and things flowing from there.

Please don't get the wrong idea, though: a lot of the things that are abilities really are diplomatic options in disguise (though they aren't implemented yet).  So things like a mutual exploration treaty would be handled via these abilities.  It will make more sense when you see it, I think -- overall it's pretty straightforward and gives you a really centralized way of looking at your diplomacy with all races, which I'm pleased about.

Amd om terms of buildings that AI neighbors react to, that is also definitely something that is coming.  The local events I've been discussing are exactly that, although we've implemented the framework but basically no events.  That's on my very short-term list.

Ok, cool!

Also note that the abilities to dump trash and bodies do not appear in 0.913 in opposition to the previous buid. Did you remove them for refactoring or is it a bug?

It shows up on the building tooltip but not in the ability stances window, is that right?  That's what I'm seeing for the peltians, anyhow.  What race are you playing as?  The peltians situation is a bug.

Well the first thing I did to try to figue this out was trying to place field study camps right next to the wonders so perhaps putting it the description box of the field study camps and the descriptions of the wonders would be a good idea, I dont think that putting it in the act 2 opening description seeing as how that already has a lot of words so it might get skimmed over and not fully read.

I looked in the Relations tab and tried several times to click/right click/middle click the portraits there. I then tried again once I had gotten language capabilities with them. I also did check the boxes to Spy on other Races in the abilities panel eventually, but still didn't realize that that was the way to interact with them. It seems odd that the ways to set up racial interaction are not evident from the relations screen. It also threw me off that the check box was called "Spy on", which is often considered a hostile act in similar games rather than the way to set up Diplomacy. Having tooltips for all the abilities on that screen would be helpful. I don't quite get what several of them are exactly and am unsure of the exact ramifications of all of them. Actually, just Mantised that: https://arcengames.com/mantisbt/view.php?id=17668

EDIT: Also, I've been sitting with the spy for Fears and Desires Checkboxes turned on for every race for quite a while and with no effects. I'm not sure if I'm supposed to have built a bunch of some building (I don't know which one) or if I just need to wait longer or if it isn't working. Some sort of progress indicator would be nice.
