What to do for demo mode...
« on: May 21, 2013, 01:41:57 pm »
I'm thinking:

1. Let players do the tutorial as many times as they want.
2. Disallow sandbox mode.
3. Let them play up until the age of monsters, but no further, in regular games outside the tutorial.

Thoughts?

That makes sense to me.

Age of Man is almost a complete game in a way, and it gives them a very good taste. Holds back the God tokens, so it doesn't give them *everything*.

Probably should disable profile leveling too.

(TEM)(TEM)(Off) 30 turns?

Edit: You can't level the profile without being able to win, and you need to finish Age of Gods for that.

Opened your save. My computer wept. Switched to the ST planet and ship icons filled my screen, so I zoomed out. Game told me that it _was_ totally zoomed out. You could seriously walk from one end of the inner grav well to the other without getting your feet cold.

I think that restricting difficulties is generally a bad idea, because advanced players want to know if it will hold their interest.  I've been frustrated by that in the past when playing some demos of some various strategy games.  I'm not really sure that round length is going to affect much either, although we certainly could limit it.

Round length is basically a difficulty setting now with score gating. Longer rounds are easier.

Every demo I've ever played was something similar to that.  that's the only reason I suggested it.  I play demos to see if the game play is going to hold me or not.  Is it interesting? Was the demo fun?  Is it going to be worth $XX?

Can't argue with the basics of this: no sandbox, age of man only, disable profile leveling. Sounds solid to me.

Keep all difficulties in the demo. It'll tell you what the game could be up to.

Everything else you listed in OP is fine.
