First Impression with some Praise
« on: May 26, 2013, 12:22:50 pm »
Hello guys !

Thanks Arcen Team for the awesome game ! First time in a game I really feel like doing the job of god ! Managing villages and their problems ! I am really enjoying the game mechanics  :D

Just found out that you can actually play in favor of the red during the blue turn (and vice versa)  >D with the terrain power like smite or create mountains etc... Which save my butt a couple times... Well, I should say the nords' butt because they always get kicked by the greek ! And the tutorial was 100% right about cursing their free will ! LOL
This game is really fun and well made !

I'm impressed at the price and the game we have for this price.
You guys already impressed me with AVWW 1 and the 2nd given for free which felt more like what AVWW 1 should have been so a really big thanks for that !

I am really looking forward more games coming from you guys, you're definitely a great indie dev. team.  :P
Same vein, the game Reus is pretty cool too and you have to manage giants and create cities who will try to destroy each other.
But for some reason, I am enjoying Skyward collapse much more ! This game makes me laugh and is really entertaining ! I was afraid of the Turn-by-Turn mechanics before buying and the videos of the game were scaring me and I was thinking that I would definitely not like this kind of game but I closed my eyes thinking I trust Arcen... Turns out it is the best 5$ I ever spent in game !

Thanks for the awesomeness and the laugh this game provides !!!!!!

Just don't get too comfy with lakes and mountains. They're being nerfed in the latest patch. ;) They were somewhat exploity.

Thank you for contributing to making the game better!

Huh...  :-[

Well, ya, I figured it that they would change that... I over-abuse it right now... lol
The fact that you can place them everywhere or even smite terrain anywhere from any side is helpful but ya I found that way powerful ! lol

Though I wonder about the new system because how can you stop it ? Except making more limitation to it ? Dunno if it's a good idea either ! But right now you can build a wall of mountains around bases and be a bit more at ease ! Maybe too much !

But units move really fast on the map (too fast) which is a problem seeing how powerful greeks are... It doesn't let you the time to react with the nordics.
The mountains are the only one really slowing down the greek power... And Mythological creatures are WAAAAAY expensive... I spend many turns just trying to prevent each side from moving anywhere until I'm sure they're alright.

The most annoying thing is that units don't stack on cases IMHO, which is a problem when greeks overrun the nordic city and the nordic just stay stupidly stuck behind each other and just get killed in a chain by greek archers and their powerful melee fighter... That's when you think let's get that mythological unit or god... but the price is hard to pay, they're too powerful and force you to summon one for the other side (which you can't always afford) and you have to think 3 times before taking the decision of moving a god... Cheap and quick solution ? Playing around with the field.

Couldn't think of anything else to do while the greeks were razing my nordic cities... and the mythological creature just razed the greeks... That's when I was broke and couldn't help with another creature for the greeks ! So I reloaded everything and instead placed mountains everywhere and everybody was happy  :D They just all stopped producing units for some reason.

The nerf should come between the strenght of the greeks / nordic and mythological creature... greeks should be more solid and nordic have more in attack (which would make sense no? Nordics with axes and arrows should do more damage than greeks who have a big armor !?) or something.... but I know it wouldn't work very well... Nordics just get killed too easily and it's bothering me, even if you upgrade them, they're still very squishy.

I'm waiting to see how the patches will change the game.

Ok, sorry for the double post, but I want to bump this one last time and doesn't seem edit does.

I played some more since the patch and even if the lakes and mountains were removed, I think the problem is still there... Smite still does the job and if you play on the great divide, the mountains are doing the exact same effect but you can't create them.

I'm playing on that map with smite and they tribes never meet each other.

So, removing them was probably not a good idea ! I'd like to see them back even if you can only make 1 per turn just like the repair building.
Seems weird to me that THE CREATOR cannot make mountains.

I think the game just need another mechanism against smite / mountains / lakes rather than removing them.
After a certain number of turns, with the technology they should have the swiming / mountain climbing ability. I agree that catapults and balista shouldn't but shouldn't simple men after a certain number of turns ?

That would give early game a possibility to defend against early rush from either side and later game would force the player to replace the mountain wall with forest / marsh.

Also, Stone is really hard to get, even if there is a lot of villages with a stone carreer and stone mason, this ressource is really hard to get... while. Steel gives me troubles too but not as much as stones :( is it normal, purposely done to slow the player ? or is there a way to accumulate more stones which by the way is used WAY lot by villages, you go from 19 and you're happy because you will be able to build that damn tower to protect your village  and next turn instead of going to 20, it goes down to 10 :s I have to say, I do not understand how the villages use ressources because sometimes it seems to me they just use it randomly :s but ya, 20 stones to build a tower is soooo hard to get :(
