Secondary resources?
« on: May 23, 2013, 08:51:04 pm »
Where do I see how many secondary resources (for lack of a better term) I have?  Bacon, bread, horse meat, etc.  I am just starting out, and I think there are a bunch of others.  Why are these not listed on the right resource panel?  Is there another resource panel I can bring up?

As an aside question - is there an option to stop the battle turn from centering on every action?  I would like to be able to pan the map around myself while the action is going on.  Is there a way to do this?

Awesome, awesome game so far!

You have primary resources and finished resources.  Rock, wood, and pig are types of primary resources and they are global to that faction.  Stuff like Lumber and Cut Stone which need a secondary building built are your finished goods.  Finished goods that are used for placing buildings can be used anywhere.  The ones used for placing units need to be produced in each town.  You can see what finished goods are made in each town by looking at each Town Center's tool tip (along with the global stores).

For the replay, there is a drop down menu below the "Play" button that has 3 selections, you want the "don't follow" one.  :)

Opened your save. My computer wept. Switched to the ST planet and ship icons filled my screen, so I zoomed out. Game told me that it _was_ totally zoomed out. You could seriously walk from one end of the inner grav well to the other without getting your feet cold.

Aha!  That makes sense, Cinth.  Thanks for the explanation.

NP.  Always happy to help.
Take a look at this.  It's a bit dated (.802) but the premise is the same (Chapman aren't there anymore and some values are off).  It should give you a good idea of what's going on.

The weird thing is that *some* finished goods such as stone that is produced from rock ARE displayed.

Because Cut stone is also used to place building tiles (like new Town Centers) that aren't confined to a single town.

Wood planks, cut stone, steel, pottery, and jewelry are used to place buildings - because they can be placed anywhere, it made sense for Chris to show most of them in the side-bar.

Since they are simply direct conversions, the secondary resources effectively never truly "exist". I think of buildings like bakeries and smelters to be the tech-buildings of SC. They provide you with the means to process primary resources in order to make advanced units/buildings.
