Skyward Collapse 1.902 Beta "Release Candidate 3" Released!
« on: August 22, 2013, 10:12:19 pm »
Original: http://arcengames.blogspot.com/2013/08/skyward-collapse-1902-beta-release.html

If you've not yet read about the general changes in the 1.4 beta line, now is a good time to do so. It's expected that we'll stay in beta for the new features until we release the 2.0 version of the game in late August, alongside the new Nihon no Mura expansion.  A lot is different in the base game since 1.4, so we want to make sure and give this time to mature before we put this out to everyone.

This one mostly is tuning.  The god-related mythological creatures have way better costs now, and the resource building upgrade progression makes sense now.  Beyond that, just a few minor fixes and typo corrections.  Things are looking good!

This release is the third "release candidate," which basically means we're into fine-tuning-only mode until this launches next week.  Probably Wednesday the 28th, but we'll keep you posted!

Enjoy!

This is a standard update that you can download through the  in-game updater itself, if you already have any version of the game.  When you  launch the game, you'll see the notice of the update having been found if you're connected to the Internet at the time.

Aha, you're releasing the expansion NEXT week, I had thought it was going to be this week.  That explains that.

Won't be any feedback from me until Sunday night or Monday as I am off at a convention again. Have to type this out with the iPads screwball browser.

If you've got the unit costs down though, and fixed that upgrade bug, then I'd say its probably ready. Can't think of any other problems beyond those two.

Nice one, thanks! I did not expect those fixes/tweaks to be approved/implemented *that* fast :D.
Especially since you have been more or less hull-down the last few days in favor of Bionic and your mystery task ...

Awesome guys!  Glad to hear it's sounding good; I was thinking that sounded about ready to go, too.  Might be the last release candidate, or next to last, knock on wood. :)

Yeah, most of our distributors are traveling this week, so we kind of missed the boat on scheduling it this week.  We've had to push back for no other reason than that!

I've mostly been playing Hamlet Idyll (it's worryingly addictive), but I'll take another crack at the main game at the next opportunity.

Well that's a good sign, too! :D

Oh, I'm planning on putting together a neat little spreadsheet listing all the culture bonuses from hamlet building adjacency. Would that be helpful to people?

If you want to put it on the wiki, and you don't have edit access to it, let me know.

Apologies if this is happening due to something intended that I am not aware of or if this is a known issue already, but I haven't been following updates too closely thus far.

Online multiplayer games *appear* to be really out of whack on the latest few update. Each turn, units will randomly move backwards and then back to the spaces they were on for no purpose, completely wasting their action points. If a unit wants to attack another, it will first move back a square, then move right back to what they were on and then finally attack. If it wants to get to some ruins three spaces away, it will move back a space, then move forward three and run out of movement...then move back again on the proceeding turn before going to it, etc. The log in the corner will always say something to the effect of 'unit x is already on tile y' in red text when this happens. Nearly every unit seems to do it each turn without fail.

It seems to make the games pretty ridiculous and single player certainly never does that. I don't know if I should report it on the bug tracker also, but I thought I best mention it here since it seems a pretty large issue.

Oh, and obligatory this game is really awesome comment!  :D

Thanks for the kind words! For the mp issue, do you have the savegame where that is happening?

It's in Google doc format at the moment, located here: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AkXag6j7cVjudF92WXZ2MGdoYmVCZG5sTHlRbmRxMHc&usp=sharing

I don't have any of the saves, but I will try and acquire one later today. It was every multiplayer game we started for all three in a row over three days that were doing it though, not just one. We were playing on Steam with steamworks enabled, if maybe that is a factor.

Hmm. A comment on Hamlet Idyll: Anyone else find that using slums to clear out civilians isn't actually very useful? By the time you've waited for the slum builder to clear and then replaced the slum (which you want to do about half the time, because so much stuff takes penalties from being built next to slums), you might as well have just waited for the civilians to clear off of their own accord.

My solution for this would be for slums to not spawn builders. I mean, they're slums. Who hires someone to build a slum? They just sort of happen.

Well,

2 things.

First, the tooltip for the end turn says you can save up to 900 turns though you only get 9.

Second, Apollo in the third age has the token to remove all building costs.  This includes the buildings for the cultural victory.  I managed to complete the cultural victory in turn 61 thanks to that particular effect.  You may want to consider changing the power to not affect the Cultural buildings.  The biggest problem with the cultural victory is the Sunstone requirements.

Otherwise, really enjoyed the game ;D
