Yggdrasil?
« on: May 09, 2013, 08:19:41 am »
Ok, this one occurred to me just earlier when playing, but, with the current version of the game, and systems to be added soon, this is the one power that now seems really out of place.

It LOOKS like this particular power was designed to be a super-high-risk move that would get the player big points (because of all of the destruction guaranteed to follow).

But in the current version of the game, this seems basically useless.   Particularly as you get later on into the game.... all it'd do is crowd the map so nobody could move much!  And the ratio of Red VS Blue would actually go unchanged for the most part with this one, since it's directly copying *everything* on the board.

So I'm wondering... should this one be changed?   DOES it have strategic use that I"m not seeing?   Even with the ideas behind the cataclysms, I STILL cant think of even one remote possibility where this would actually be a good idea.  It's TOO chaotic, and there are too many other good options available to the player without that insane risk.   Even if it DOES have a use, it seems like it's probably the sort that'd be extremely situational, that most players would never use anyway.

You're forgetting catastrophes/catacylsms.  Out of that context, most of the god powers have the issues you have with Yggdrasil.  In that context... well, we'll be designing catastrophes around the idea of solving specific problems with specific tokens, and only giving those catastrophes as potentials when you have those tokens available to you.  Not that you HAVE to solve those problems with those tokens, which is the beauty of it, but that it gives some interesting stuff going on there.

In terms of Yggdrasil, if it's duplicating bandits that probably does need to be tuned.  But just red and blue would be fine.  I expect there will definitely be some tuneups for sure.

Ok, that makes more sense;  my assumption with this one (based on what it says) is that it WOULD multiply bandits as well, thus making it a pretty crazy thing most of the time....

....this also makes me more interested to see what the rest of these god tokens are going to do.

Actually, you were right that this one hit bandits too, and it definitely should not have.  I've fixed that now -- thanks!

Even without catastrophes, this one has some definite uses if you play in Murdoch's Wood or similar.

I tested it at some point - it's hilarious.
It also makes pathfing weep...
When you have like 50+ units on each side in mountainous terrain for example. And there is a significant portion of infantry there :D

They shouldn't be appearing in mountains anymore, as of a number of releases ago.  If they are appearing literally on mountains, then it's a bug for sure.
