Name That Woe!
« on: May 22, 2013, 09:26:03 pm »
So I'm not the only person around here that wanted the woes to feel like they were part of Luminith's mythology.  Now Luminith has a mixed bag of mythologies (Greek and Norse currently), but do the woes feel like they reflect those mythologies.

Now lets play "Name That Woe!"
Thread brought to you by Pepisolo and Cinth, causing developer headaches since the beginning of alpha ;)

"Drug Lord"  -->  "Cult of Dionysus"

Perhaps Serial Killer could be changed to "Fanatic of (name)" where name is one of the greek/norse gods for whom it would seem logical (in a twisted sort of way, perhaps) for one of their devotees to go off the deep end in the direction of becoming a serial killer.

Or maybe something indicating a mythological killer, like "Recruiter for Hades" or "Rogue Valkyrie" or something.

I've added a few optional choices.

Feast --> Persephone/Demeter/Freyr's Bounty

Persephone and Demeter were both Greek Gods of agriculture. Freyr was the closest to a God of farming I could find for the Norse being associated with prosperity, sunshine, and fair weather.

Wildfire --> Logi's Wildfire/Fire/Flame

Quote
There really was no Norse "god" of fire. There was Logi, who was of a race of sort of proto-giants who seems to have represented fire and whose name means "wildfire."

So Logi's name actually means wildfire.

Might be easier if we go with the other side of the board for that one.

"Prometheus's Big Whoopsie"? ;)

Logi's Appetite

A play on the consuming nature of fire :)

Or you could look to the actual deity that embodied fire (and some other stuff)  :P

And Persephone won!

Influenza -> Apollo's Judgement (or Asclepius or another)

Black Death -> the passing of Hel (Holler or Hel)? Norse god of disease.

I think serial killer and human vanity can be further renamed.

I think Black Death is already suitable to the overall theme of the game.  Avoiding modern or matter-of-fact/literal terminology is nice, but I don't think everything has to fit into greek or norse categories.

Is that site trustworthy? I wasn't all that sure when I came across it.

Looks alright to me. Only recently stumbled across it, though. Looks fairly professional.
