Title: Good music except one track...
Post by: DarkNeuron on May 30, 2013, 03:44:22 pm
"TheArchitect"...
Man that track is terrible, and it completely distracts me from the experience.
It sounds like something a cheap wedding musician would play on his cheap keyboard... ugh

Can I delete the track without the game breaking?

I believe they are just .ogg files in a folder somewhere. You can remove the ones you dislike and even add in your own.

Yeah I know where they are.
I deleted it. Time will tell if it breaks something

It won't break anything; you can add or remove tracks to that folder in this game without any issues.

Interesting that you don't like that track; it's not my favorite, but I do like it.  The one that bugs me is Greek Winter, but again it's a matter of taste.  I just adore Follow Me Down, High Noon, and the main theme in particular.

It's a matter of taste what one likes and not. I have a few of the original AI War soundtrack removed (Warp and one other I can't remember the name of). Thankfully, it's easy to "mod" them out this way.

That's cool that you can add/remove tracks.  I may have to put some AI War music in there  :).  As an aside, my favorite new track by far is The Arrival.

Favorite track definitely has to be the Arrival. ^^

Running in the Sun is just ridiculously awesome. I could play Skyward Collapse just to listen to that song. I want to rock out every time it comes up. :D

Running in the Sun, High Noon and The Arrival are definitely the best, at least in my opinion. I don't mind The Architect; it's nice, calming and smooth, but not my favorite either.

It's a good sign that everybody has different favorites, I think. :)

I'm pretty sure you can't add tracks, as the game will read from file names. You'd have to replace an already existing track by renaming it.

Can't say for here, but in AI Wars you certainly can.

It's not that efficient though. I tried to put a few songs converted into .ogg in AI Wars, and they simply sounded horrible.

This works in AI War and this game, but not in any of our other games.  The other games have tracks for specific levels, is why, versus the open-ended strategy games just play tracks on a random loop.

In terms of converting to .ogg, you can use something like Wavepad Sound editor, and use quality 8, stereo, and you get a nicely-sized and good-sounding conversion.  Not all converters will do it very high quality.

I added Midnight, Worshipped Wasteland, and The Next Chapter from AI War, and it works.

I'm totally doing this now.

I added some of my favorite AI War tracks and now it's throwing Fatal Error messages at me and the interface has entirely disappeared. Yikes.

You people and your complicated means of changing the soundtrack. I just mute the in game music and play my own in the background. It's not like Arcen games eat up processing power :P

lol, I knew the track you were talking about before looking up the title.

Alternatively, instead of deleting it rename it the Always Stay Positive Song, make up fitting lyrics and you'll never forget to brush your teeth again.

It's not one of my favorite pieces either, and I wrote it. Just trying to add some variety. But it's good to get some feedback!
