Original: http://arcengames.blogspot.com/2013/03/shattered-haven-beta-0808-stantonsburg.html

This one is the second release of the day.  It has a number of fixes and tweaks that are nice, but nothing too major.

The big thing this time around is our work on implementing/polishing more story and voiceovers and comic panels, etc.  We still have more than a little bit to do over the next couple of days on that score, but we're making good progress toward having everything ready and sparkling by Monday

Stantonsburg hasn't really changed all that much, but some loose ends have been tied up and it has been finalized excepting any bugs that are found.  That's also true of the Phoenix Forest as of yesterday.  Stantonsburg is a lot more complex in terms of scripting than most of the other parts of the game, so it's one of the more time consuming ones to implement compared to the more wilderness-focused overworld sections.

By the way, I can now confirm that we're going to be coming out on Monday on all the major distributors you'd expect from our past games -- plus one major one we've never had a game on before.

Oh, and also -- I'll be very curious to know if anyone ever made it into the Mines.  I think everyone has been taking the Deadlands route from what I've seen.  I think that's because the blue key was way too hard to find before (not on purpose); that's now much easier to find.  But choose carefully between the Mines and Deadlands!  The Mines are a far harder road (something about digging too greedily and too deep?  I'm not sure.).

Enjoy!

This is a standard update that you can download through the  in-game updater itself, if you already have any version of the game.  When you  launch the game, hit the big "Play" button and then you'll see the notice of the update having been found if you're connected to the Internet at the time.

I really wasn't sure about the mines...I remember trying to go through the rubble, but I couldn't find anything.  I didn't try very hard, as I thought the mines were for later on in the game.

One possible bug has caught my attention, and I'd like to see if anyone else has noticed it--the "Kill x enemy before y enemy" objectives never show up as complete for me, even when I carefully follow the directions.  In fact, the only level I ever remember getting that award (Crazed Meadows), I'm pretty sure that I failed the condition.  I plan to test it again, this time recording a level with that objective, to make sure that I'm not just being a bonehead.  If someone else has noticed or Mantised this, please let me know.
My other bonus ship is a TARDIS.

I remember the game said something about going in two directions after Stantonsburg, but before I knew it was time to make that choice, I had already chosen the path of least resistance - The Deadlands.  I'm not even sure where the Mines are, but I'll be looking this time.  8)

Maybe there could be some dialog explaining that a choice can be made when you get the blue key?  Is this what the last line in the .808 change log addresses?  I remember when I got the blue key (I think I found it first time through), I ran around town looking for where to use it, but I gave up fairly quickly and assumed it would be used later on.  Since you get so many, I assumed they would be used on chests or loot rooms, or something like that.

EDIT: A few things I noticed after starting a new game.  When the grays approach the fence, I was standing near Lela. Since I have read the dialog a few times, I was repeatedly pressing the skip button.  This also made Pierce talk to Lela between scripted lines about how much she liked the backyard.  Very minor, but I thought I'd mention it.

When I was at The Farm, I died a few times, and I noticed when I restarted, the money objects hidden in the bookcases didn't sparkle, but instead were just laying on top of the bookcase.

Should the land mines kill more than one gray if they are close enough?  I know gameplay wise it could make certain situations easier, but it seems very strange that only one would die if a second (or third) were nearly stacked on top of one another when the mine explodes.

Since The Farm was the first level I went to, the message about being able to keep my inventory because they didn't pass through a portal seemed out of place.

Also, the new cut scenes are awesome!  And I really like how the tutorial messages are more context sensitive.  Everything is coming together wonderfully!

I was able to find the mines and the blue key but decided to take the deadlands route after trying to solve "volcano something" and failing miserably.

I was not able to find the prison yet, though.
But don't tell me (yet). I will start a new game first and see what i can find...

It also looks like "Complete all objectives" is getting awarded when all objectives have not been completed.  At least, The Farm and Forsaken Home did this.  Also,  I couldn't get "Kill all of type DeadWanderer before any of type DeadSlow" in Cobble Paradise.  And maybe this is intentional, but Switch Maze has no bonus objectives, so it doesn't seem possible to get gold on it.

I didn't like the reduced speed in the overworld at first, but now I think it feels a lot more consistent after I've gotten used to it.

I just found the entrance to the mine.  I'm definitely going that way when the time comes!  8)

I started a fresh game today and encountered similar issues. Here's what I found:

General
=================
  • If retrying an already completed level the number of Grays to kill is not displayed but "Completed" is shown instead.
  • The "Complete all objectives in a single run" objective seems to be marked as completed in the results even though not all objectives have been met in a single playthrough (although they have been met individually in different retries). Gold is (correctly) not awarded, though. This might well be related to the next point.
  • The "Don't get hurt" objective seems to always be marked as completed even though it has not been achieved (and has been stated as such while playing the level). Gold is (correctly) not awarded, though.
  • All "Kill all X before Y" objectives do not seem to be awarded in general, both in terms of being marked as completed and Gold being awarded (if appropriate).
  • Grays still seem to react to NPC player 2 inside Overworld levels (see in Canoe Trip and Crazed Meadow).

All of these happened in multiple levels in Phoenix Forest and Stantonsburg.

Switch Maze
=================
  • No gold is awarded after completing the level (likely related to no bonus objectives being specified for this level). This is likely a general issue for such levels.

Canoe Trip
=================
  • I had two glitches here today that forced me to restart the level to complete it. Both times the Grays on the upper island got locked "inside" some trees or otherwise glitched out so that I was no longer able to lead them onto some tacks (or to make them move at all). This might be related to them (still) reacting to NPC player 2 (who is standing in the upper right corner). I attached two screenshots showing the issue.

Stanstonsburg Warehouse
=================
  • The statue of this level in the Overworld always is in not completed state even after the level has been completed. Gold is not awarded even if all objectives have been achieved. Completing the level a second time resolves neither issue.
  • Completing the level *always* transports the player back to the Sewer entrance - even after retrying the level which is a bit "unfortunate" - considering how Stantonsburg looks at that time.
  • Arlene should say something else if encountered at the warehouse after the level has been completed - still talking about what she was talking before does rather not match the current situation in this case ;  ).

Aside from that I have a question. I played trough Phoenix Forest and Stantonsburg today and failed to locate the remaining two Phoenix Forest bonus levels (beside Forsaken Home). Are these supposed to be *that* hidden? Or is their appearance related to achieving Gold in a number of levels around Phoenix Forest first? Do I have to come back after them even later in the game? Just asking for the general direction/mechanisms concerning bonus levels here - I just want to make sure there I am no blockhead ...

I cannot stress enough how cool the new cutscenes and the especially the new music are in terms of giving the game a really awesome atmosphere. Really, really nice! As far as I am concerned this is Pablo's masterpiece in terms of ingame music!

Okay -- folks, this is really getting incredibly hard to deal with.  I'm starting to get reports all over the place in all sorts of threads, and there are duplicates everywhere and it's not organized, and I'm having to keep track in notepad of what is where and what to look at.  This is why we have mantis; otherwise it really does become an organizational nightmare.  I'm going to try to parse through the important bits here now...

I'm sorry, I wanted to see if I was an isolated case before going to Mantis (especially since, before today, I had no real way to record my actions  :-[).  I'll post a mantis link of a sample level, and let you determine whether it is a global problem, or if it needs to be handled puzzle-by-puzzle (which will be FUN!)

No worries at all, sorry I was frustrated.  Just feeling overwhelmed at the moment, mainly because when things are not organized that's how I start feeling.  Don't worry about mantising that one, there are three separate reports in this one thread and I'm about to look into it right now. :)

In the new version at least, I can't duplicate the the following:

1. If you play a level, it doesn't honor the "Don't get hurt" bonus achievement.  It flags as red when I fail it just fine.  Bear in mind it's supposed to be green until you are actually hurt.

2. Complete all objectives at once seems to be triggering properly, and a review of the code didn't turn up anything.

If you have steps to repro either one and a save to go with it, I'd appreciate it!  Everything else from this thread is I believe addressed in the next patch.

Looks like you found the bugs I mentioned.  Also, I love how you now show the icons on the "Kill/Don't Kill" objectives--should make it a little easier on newcomers.  No chance to Mantis, but at least I got to practice some video editing (which I have never done before)   :)

I will check if I can reproduce any of my issues using the new version later today - and use mantis from now on. Sorry for the trouble...

Glad I could do if, and actually the icons were always there... For objectives that worked. So none with grays. If you see any more without an icon, that's a good sign that definition is busted actually!

No worries, I'm extremely grateful for all your enthusiasm and testing. I don't mean to look a gift horse in the mouth as the expression goes. ;) But I did need to convey that I was getting overwhelmed, or I was simply going to start missing stuff due to things not being organized. And that's what really stressed me out!
