Recent Red Dead...
« on: April 23, 2013, 02:38:08 pm »
Hi.

Has anyone ever solved (let alone mastered) "Recent Red Dead (Something)". Any tips (w/o spoilers)?

It is definitely solvable (I just now beat it again on Cutthroat to make absolutely sure nothing had changed), but you have to think in a "Home Alone" sort of mindset.  You cannot just pick up all the stuff then flip the switch and get them.  When it comes to water jars, you need to have those mostly laid out prior to them even emerging (unless your reflexes are super good).

Key tip: never completely block off a passage with the water.  If you do, then they'll all pile up on the far side and you've basically lost.  I mean, it is recoverable if you do that, but you'll take a lot of damage and quite possibly die.

Second key tip: notice that there are several places there there is a north route and a south route for them.  This can be significant...

Third key tip: If the home alone route isn't completely working for you, bear in mind this: any dead that find themselves stuck in the thin water die immediately.  Sometimes you can get more than one, or sometimes you can get a single recent dead in more than one hit this way rather than the normal multiple hits.  Doing this at least a few times helps things along quite a lot.  And if you're right in front of some deads that are stacked a bit on top of each other... wow big payoff from one water jar.

Fourth key tip: Be very careful that you never miss with any of your matches.

Hope that helps!

I feel like we beat this one not in the intended fashion... 2 player, we used water jars / luring to make it so that all of the zombies were in one square, then we rammed them mashing the water jar button until one dropped and killed them all.

I've also noticed that water jars unless you drop them on the far side of the square from where the zombies come in, the zombie isn't guaranteed to get caught in it (this is highly frustrating since I feel like it should work the same no matter where on the square it's dropped, but if you put it too close to them they touch it before they enter that square and it no worky.  This may be a bug?)

Cheers, glad that worked!

I've added a mantis issue about the glass water jars: http://www.arcengames.com/mantisbt/view.php?id=11071

It's not a bug per se, but it is less than ideal.

Sweet, I appreciate it.  My wife is not the greatest at the whole dexterity bit and this was probably our only source of frustration with the actual game mechanics since she had a lot of trouble even using the water jar to any effect at all.  It's actually very interesting watching her play because she acts like I expect a real person would do in the situation, panics and runs off in some weird direction or something ;)

The whole developer feedback/response is probably my absolute favorite part of Arcen games btw.  Even when you don't do something I feel like you guys always listen!

It's our pleasure as well -- I love how players like you are always so reasonable and tend to have such great ideas.  It's not the unhelpful moaning about nonspecific things that you get with some game communities.  Again, glad you're enjoying it!  Very funny about your wife's reactions; I love it. :)
