This is a tip for anybody trying to play at 1920x1080 on a TV but has a tiny playable area / tiny text. I did two things to make the playable area take up most of my screen without distortion and get the text bigger:
1) Enable GPU scaling on my video card (for AMD: AMD control center --> my digital flat-panels --> properties)
2) Set the in-game resolution height to 768 (any_width x 768, although note at 1024x768 the gray border artwork disappears)
That's it! I'm enjoying the game so far.
