Impressions and performance
« on: February 27, 2017, 04:25:04 pm »
I understand how early this is so take this all with a huge grain of salt
1. Delays. The buttons on the gui firstly, but also moving ships feels super delayed for some reason.
2. Performance: Runs like a dream. No crashes so far and I don't think I have gone below 60fps
3. New Game button? Maybe I'm dumb and this is small but once my ark is destroyed I need to restart the entire game to start a new game. Maybe add a button to go back to menu? simple but needed I think
4. When I selected my ark i changed order to produced units and tried setting produced units to FRD mode. No matter how many times i clicked the button it never happened. Not sure why

Other than that it's a solid start and I see the potential! Once things get more ironed out I am sure i will have much more to add. Until then, I'm gonna try to beat the AI I'm not supposed to beat ;)

Sweet!  What are your specs?

Slight threadjacking. I downloaded the build and fiddled around with it a bit, but it's not in a complete enough state that I would want to spend time playtesting. However, if you had some way of setting up a benchmarking scenario in the game and spit out some text files as output, I'd be happy to spend some time running them through my computer.

My current desktop is an i5-6600K (4 cores), 16 GB RAM, Win 10 64-bit, no graphics card (waiting for a sale...), 1680x1050 monitor. I didn't notice any lag or hitching issues in the Earlier-than-Alpha's initial fight.

I have an old system that is a Q6600 (4 cores), 4 GB RAM, Win 10 64-bit, an old GTX 600-series graphics card, 800x600 (I think) monitor (if the old monitor's an issue, I can just swap the tower into my station for testing). The original AI War ran pretty sluggishly on this machine if I didn't lower ship caps.

Maybe make a sticky about what system specs are most important to you when people report about performance issues?

Got it -- thank you!  That's good to know.  I mostly care about GPU model and OS.  If there is lag without much going on on the screen itself, then I'll start caring more about CPU model, and if there are strange crashes then we might get into RAM.  But overall it's just the GPU model that matters much, because CPUs have been so good for a while now that most of them would be fine.  If you're running a single-core CPU and having issues that obviously would be a thing to note, but still. :/

Piggy backing off this post, i dont want to make a whole new one and cause clutter

Have just warmed up the 'program'

i have had one or two issues with the GUI already, as stated it feels a little delayed, it does not refresh well, I.E. switching from construct menu to the Ship Menu, the buttons for the construct menu remain instead of being cleared off the GUI.

but its obvious the GUI is still well in pre-alpha as much of the game is

Warp points/wormholes have spawned ontop of each other as shown here

[Steam, saved private, Can the Devs even see this?]

My DXDiag is attached (i hope)so you have my system info, if anything is missing let me know

in addition its seems the GUI stops accepting commands, the button will react but the code behind it dosnt do anything. had to restart a couple of times to get a game started.

but all in all, it looks great already, i am feeling it

Thanks
Blade

Opened your save. My computer wept. Switched to the ST planet and ship icons filled my screen, so I zoomed out. Game told me that it _was_ totally zoomed out. You could seriously walk from one end of the inner grav well to the other without getting your feet cold.

I'm just a regular Steam user.  Chris might actually be able to see it though.

Q about that SS, on the galaxy map, do those planets overlap in any way?

With the starting number of ships I have about 260-360 FPS.  I cranked up the AI waves and had about 3k ships on screen which brought my frame rate down to the 80s.  My OS is Ubuntu 16.04.2  Vid card is Nvidia 770 OC with 4GB of vram.

You Know, i cannot be 100% sure, but in my head I'm positive that they where not in anyway over lapping, i have since closed the game, so cannot verify if my memory is correct.

I've seen some generated maps where there were two planets whose links to the starting planet overlapped exactly, leading to two wormholes at the exact same position. It's not supposed to place planets like that, but the game's rendering handled it "correctly".

I'm sure one of you guys will get round to hashing that out soon enough, not a big priority but interesting.

do we have a Bug report Lab open for this game yet or are we just sharing and caring here for now?
