And not habving rebindable keys in modern pc era is simply terrible.

Agreed on this.  There's just no excuse for that nowadays.  Yet I keep running into games that have this exact problem.  Been seeing it a lot lately, and it's just as bloody stupid every single time.

In this specific case though, it kinda sounds like the old "lazy port" sort of reason, if they developed for consoles first.
This would also explain why it has significant performance/optimization problems on PC. It runs smooth on my PC but for some reason soemtimes the music just stops and then plays again. A lot of other people have however significant FPS drops of what I've heard, so I'm probably in the chart where I was lucky and didn't get affected by it.

Agaion, I think Yooka-Laylee is a good game but people let get teh flaws of the game in their way to enjoy it. It's certainly not perfect, probably not even great. they messed too much up. But its good. It is exactly what it says on the tin cap: A new Banjo-Kazooie. it isn't a mdoern version of it or a spiritual succesor, it is exactly that, nothing more.  People kind of excepted it to be a more advanced version of that which i totally can understand. We are in 2017 now, we play modern games with modern features. But tehy said they will remake the classic platformers of old times and this is a classic platformer of all times, no onnovations here. even the "new" stuff was done by other games before, just not by Rare however.
For anyone that still is interested into the game but does not want to pay the full price, simply wait for a sale. At a 50% price drop I think this game is good enough to pick up and who knows, maybe they fixed untilt hen some of the bigger problems with the game. At the moment however I don't think you should pick it up unless you REALLY want a BK platformer but don't want to play the same old game again. As someone who played through BK multiple times, the game isn't surprising anymore and part of the joy was to discover secrets, there is no fun if you know every secret however.

Yeah, I have performance issues too. Had to turn the game's resolution down real low. Like, under 1024x768. Blurry as duck, but at least it's responsive.

I'm enjoying it, though. But I think there's a few mini games I'll never be able to win, like the racing one.

Actually, there is a way to make it easier, later. Not entirely "win proof" but a little easier and gives you more room for mistakes.

Had you turned of V-Sync?

I'll try that later. I tried "exclusive mode" but it didn't seem to make a whole lot of difference (other than lovably with my window layouts).

I've reached world 4 and boy, am I disappointed. At first I though the design was really cool until I realized what you had to do in this world.
Here's a little spoiler.

Spoiler for Hiden:
World 4 is a casino themed world. Reminded me of the light world in "Bomberman 64 Second Attack". The optical design is really cool, the world has oversized casino games like roulette and badnits that you can walk on or use. However, getting pagies in this world is the most boring thing int he entire game. instead of collecting them, you buy them from a store at the world entrance. Solving the minigames in the casino rewards you casino cpins, a pagie costs 10 coins, so all you have to do is gather those coins and buy your pagies.
They probably thougth this would be an interesting switch to the usual formular but it isn't. Most of the time you have to do the same stupid bandit minigame where you have to match 3 Yooka-Laylee symbols and this over and over and over. In the entire world there are these bandits and each one has the same mini game but with slight tweaks to the roll behaviour. You have to win on everyone of these bandits to get the coins. It's really frustrating that they couldn't design a bigger variety of minigames. It really seems they've ran out of ideas for challenges here.
There are some more typical challenges of course that reward also coins, like a golf mini game and a gliding parcour but besides that there are mostly bandits to solve. And I started to hate this minigame right at the first one. It's not really well made or clever and doing it over and over again seems to be like a bad design decision.
This is probably the first (and hopefully only) world that I hate with my guts.
Since there are only 5 worlds and the worlds are so huge, this has  abig impact on the game itself.
