Windows Vista/7 extremely annoying folder sorting issue [Solved]

No Unicode support is always a deal breaker for me with software.

Yeah.. I will check Windows 7 now and try to figure out why it sorts differently, because that is definitely weird.

Just checked, and it is a library thing apparently.  If I view the folder via the Library, I can sort it properly.  But if I manually go to the folder, I can't.  You can tell by looking at the top right corner.  In the Library it has "Arrange By" and several options.  Outside the library is a set of icons for displaying icon size/layout.  You could always put the networked drive into a library, although you need to enable indexing on the file server to do that.

Yeah, you can imagine why that's not an option ;P But I find it incredibly silly that Windows 7 has a feature that sorts this way, and then they have ANOTHER feature that sorts another way... seriously?

But even if there were a way to do this somehow in Windows 7, that still leaves Vista as a problem. (And contrary to tales, Vista is actually pretty good nowadays...)

duno if you figured this out, but i was just in same position a the "magic" is in "shif+click on Name column" ... so

- Open folder
- Detailed view
- Click on "Date Modified" column
- Shift+click on "Name" column
- profit ! ^^

Yea ... and sorry for exhuming this post but i found it via google on first page, so i guess its good to have also solution here :p

Ah.. Interestingly the order has to be specifically like that... anyway it works.. by the gods, it works. How the hell does this make it in Windows and not be documented anywhere.

Also, I wonder what else shift click can do in windows.. need to experiment haha ,)

Hah I am glad the mighty google has put this topic on the top of the results for "folder sorting issue" though At least for some people... this now does exactly what I needed.

Lots of things like these could be avoided if Microsoft would write proper tooltips for functions though
