video capture tool

Guys, I want to capture a video of a game (Valley 2) never done it before. What software should I use?

Personally, I prefer Fraps. You'll need a program to edit and compress the video, because you'll get massive uncompressed video files... but it gives you the most to work with out of anything. You can take any level of quality and go down. You can't exactly take a low res video and just make it better somehow.
For perspective, an hour of video can be like 200 gigabytes or more. If you haven't got the hard drive space, look up Camstudio, or I'm sure someone else has a better one.

Thanks, since this is likely a one off thing, I'd prefer free software. I don't think Fraps has a free version. I obviously can google a ton of tools like that, but I was after "used it, found it useful and convenient" type of recommendation. Yours is good, but I'm not ready to pay =)

I think fraps has a trial, but it's a really awful model. Only 30 seconds of recording, and with a watermark.

I was using OpenBroadcaster for streaming, and from what I understand it does video too but I never tried just pulling video with it.

Thanks, I'll remember OpenBroadcaster for the future, was able to make a short video with help of a hammer and a spade for now, so thank you all =)

FRAPS is great for everyday stuff and non-demanding stuff. But once you get into my serious stuff, I've found DXTory to be absolutely invaluable. The ability to record audio into separate audio channels is absolutely priceless for post-editing. Not to mention that it's settings are vastly superiour to FRAPS, and it's CPU usage is a lot less than FRAPS.

Also I suck at reading. DXTory is payware, and doesn't have a demo AFAIK, nor is it suitable for a one-off thing. It's more of a serious production tool.
