Updating the Wiki
« on: January 29, 2015, 09:52:08 pm »
I have started work on updating the wiki, and would much appreciate every person who can to come help! My goal is to set up a good community there and make everything run smoothly and fairly.

Welcome to the forum! Are you new to Arcen games or a longtime lurker on the forums?

Which part(s) of the wiki are you planning on working on?

Was wondering the same thing.

I did alot of the wiki stuff for the original Valley Without Wind, so I wouldnt have any problems doing this sort of thing.  But I'm only good for certain games of theirs; Bionic Dues in particular, and every aspect of the combat side of Last Federation.  Could probably help with Valley 2.

I sure as heck have the free time to work on it, at least, if any of those games are bieng included.

Is this a whole-wiki sort of thing, or updating parts of it? The last time I looked at the arcen wiki it was fairly patchwork in terms of being updated.

Not a long time lurker, but I've lurked for a bit.

I am going to attempt a full refresh on the wiki. At the moment, I am working on sensitive pages, but I could use help with everything. For a while, my goal will be policies and guidelines, along with allowing the community to make their own decisions via consensus. If anyone wants an account and doesn't already have one, PM me and I'll set it up. This will last until some anti-spam stuff is put in place and anyone can register.

EDIT: I am currently updating the wiki, so it will be up and down occasionally. If you go there and see a blank white page, it just means the update is either in progress or didn't work. If it doesn't work, I'm not planning on doing it again, and will wait for a while. Should it work, account creation should be open again very soon!!!
Okay, so the update decided to not play nice. Depending on schedules tomorrow, it may be updated then, or on Monday. Don't know yet. I'll be looking into account creation for the masses, but it doesn't seem likely until we update.

I officially no longer understand this stupid software. Apparently, it just needed a day or so to allow me to follow the update steps. The Wiki is currently being locked down until I finish backing it up, update, and hopefully not have to restore the backup. Once this is done, account creation will return!

Wasn't there a reason for limiting it in the first place, or am I getting some wikis mixed up?

The Wiki was getting a ton of spam edits, but I have a way of fixing that so it will only be a couple of humans doing it, rather than bots. Even if spam accounts are registered, they won't be able to do much.

Before you get too far on renaming pages, do you want to use "The Last Federation" instead of "Last Federation"?

When I originally created most of those pages I left out the game name in the title and instead just made it a category link at the bottom and tried to mention the game name at the top.

Adding the game name to the page title may be a better organization scheme, but it should probably use the full game name or "TLF" if you want top abbreviate. What do you think?

I figured that since it was just an article, it wouldbe omitted from the page name. But It's really easy to change, so if That's what you guys want, we can do that. Same goes for all the namespaces.

I fixed the link both ways on the 7.0 and 8.0 patch notes pages, you had a space in it that sent it to a blank 'AI' page instead of the correct target. Might want to check previous pages as well if they have the same issue.

The release notes links and a bunch of other links on the main TLF page are currently broken. We should decide about the "The Last Federation" vs "Last Federation" namespace before putting more time into fixing them. I do not really care either way, it was just what made the most sense to me. Just let me know and I can help with fixing them.

Is there a way to delete pages without destroying the links between articles? Links across the wiki are currently crying out in pain.  ;)

Also, is the wiki running really slowly for anyone else?

edit: ah, I just noticed this forum post

It actually doesn't matter what namespace we want, since I'll just put in an alias for the namespace (Type AIW:[Pagename] instead of AI War:[Pagename] and you'll see what that does), and the naming of it is something I have to do, but its a quick and painless operation.

I fixed the link both ways on the 7.0 and 8.0 patch notes pages, you had a space in it that sent it to a blank 'AI' page instead of the correct target. Might want to check previous pages as well if they have the same issue.

Thanks! Yea, I wasn't expecting to find any hard links like that. Typically, its a lot better to use wiki links ( [[<Namespace>:<PageName>]] ) because they're a lot more flexible and easier to edit. I'm sending a bot on a quick run to try and catch those if I can. Problem is, since they aren't wiki links, the bot has no clue if they are wrong.

Okay, so I added redirects for all the release notes pages I could find, but if someone sees more, please, please, please either create them yourself if you have the permissions (Have an account for 4 days, and make 10 edits) or tell someone who does that it isn't working.
