I think everybody has experienced that at least once in their life. Most people have probably experienced it many times. Nobody is immune to criticism or bodies of criticism.
That's not an excuse to not take responsibility for your own emotional well-being. I completely agree, it isn't easy to do, but neither is staying physically healthy and fit either; that isn't an excuse to become obese.
Aye, this. Been there, done that, more than people would know or than I'd let on.
Nobody likes having to go through something like that, nobody SHOULD have to go through something like that, but it happens. And the important thing isnt what THEY do during it.... it's what YOU do during it. If you give in to it all, they win, simple as that.
Right now, he seems WAY too worried about what others think of him. Which, honestly, you cant really do in his position. It kinda reminds me of that whole thing with Phil Fish, actually. The guy that made Fez. He makes this game that so many people even just liked the IDEA of that screenshots and info and rumors were being passes around for like forever before the game even came out. And it comes out, and is very much loved by many of the people that had looked forward to it. It apparently lived up to the hype it had gotten. In other words, the guy had successfully created a truly great thing that deserved all the praise.
......so then what happens? A few random trolls on Twitter cause the guy to ENTIRELY CANCEL the planned sequel. Let's think about this for a second.... this is a game that people had been very eager to get their hands on, and a game that, when it came out, really DID live up to what it was said to be. Reviewers loved it, players loved it, people used a gazillion words saying so. But the moment the developer runs into a few negative jerks, it's all over. He lets THEM win, and it ruins him. He didn't stop to think, wait a minute, what do these guys know, I've already heard 10 gazillion times from people about what a great game I made! Instead it's immediately "Oh no, it's true, everyone everywhere hated it and they hate me, I better just quit now".
That example is a little extreme, because of his NEAR INSTANT giving in to the trolls, but it shows the point I'm making here. You've got to be able to resist those jerks. And this goes double for someone in Totalbiscuit's position.... heck, you go anywhere NEAR that sort of position, you better already know in advance that this sort of crap IS going to come your way, no matter how bloody wonderful you are, because there ARE people out there that only want to see you suffer for their amusement. You have to know this, so that you can say "Oh, those guys saying that crap at me? Yeah, I just ignore them. They're idiots, and not worth even a second of my time." Stuff like that.
