Yea, I think if Runic was still not sure they could hit it they wouldn't have given a specific date.  I think it could still slip up to a week over publisher/deployment/etc snafus, but I don't think it's another "we may have no chance at all of hitting this".

Just to point out:

Torchlight is technically still coming out before the end of summer.
Life is short. Have fun.

I believe them this time.  I don't think they've ever given a specific date before now.

They've given a generalized time (at the end of 2011, etc.), but this is more precise.  I don't mind the wait, after the failure known as Diablo 3 it'll be completely worth it imo.

While I understand your sentiment, I'll point out a couple things:

1.) Runic has been open about their process lately, explaining why things took as long as they did, and going through what they were doing each week to complete the game.

2.) Runic has never given an exact release date to this point. It was always "July" or "End of Summer". This is the first time that they've ever said "On THIS date". Plus, with reading their "Not a blog" feature on their forums, it had been apparent for a few weeks that they really were getting close.

I have not been following runic forums / blog etc so this is good to know. Maybe there is hope after all =) Btw I've got this on pre-order too.

There were cases in game industry when date slipped many months, this is not something unheard of. Of course sometimes things get completely canned. Many-many years ago my big disappointment was when "Starts! Supernova" got feature complete, but they never could find a publisher so the whole thing never saw the light of the day.

I'm guessing if this were happening today, they would simply get on kickstarter.

Surprised nobody posted now that torchlight's actually out.

Or maybe I shouldn't be surprised as everybody is too busy playing it! Either way, it's out now for PC.  Personally I'm stuck waiting for the mac version, which hopefully won't take too terribly long.

I fired it up before realizing I wasn't in the mood to play the game for some strange reason. I probably should just wait for my coop partners to get online.

Right :)

FTL will probably occupy much of my gaming hours for a while, but TL2 is definitely on my to-buy list.

I have it, I've been playing it, and it is absolutely amazing. I think my problem only is that I keep exploring when I really should be going away from the monsters that are four levels below me. XD

My reason why I didn't post here? I wasn't too busy playing it nonstop, no. In fact, I tried to avoid playing it because I was afraid that it would crash. I just didn't post here because I don't have anything to say other than "It's really good."

My  issue with Torchlight is that it isn't an FPS featuring ooh-rah Marines armed with ACOGs mounted on modern assault rifles with rocket launchers mounted on their backs.

That is, this isn't my personal issue, but the issue that any of my friends would cite if I suggested we switch genres.

I don't really care for clicktastic aRPGs, but it would be a sweet relief to play at least a couple hours a month of something other than Arma. HAVE YOUR FRICKIN FUN TORCHLIGHT II HAVERS.

(I am also playing FTL to personal near-ruin.)

Guys, guys. You'll never guess what I got!
I love this game.

Edit: For the record though, I AM a wand mage, so that's actually worthless to me unless I toss it in my shared stash. Darn.

That is one sweet gun, even if your character can't use it.

Maybe it can be worn in taverns to decrease the chance of someone picking a fight ;)

I totally bet you're right! Maybe it ran out of room because it had so many affixes, it just couldn't display that. But, until I encounter a tavern, I have to save it for a future Cannongineer.

I'm playing a swashbuckling outlander, so that'd make a nice secondary weapon for sure. Although I am rather fond of my shotgonnes, as I can still rapid fire them!
