The Awesome Winter Deal Thread
« on: December 12, 2012, 11:46:52 am »
We all knew it would happen eventually, a thread for all the awesome sales that are going to happen.

While steam isn't haven't a sale, I noticed a 24-hour sale on gog.com (who's already started their sales I guess) that I think will really interest quite a few people here.

Master of Orion 1 + 2 in a combo pack for 50% off (that's $3).

There's also a discount on a bullfrog games pack, but the MOO deal seemed relevant and I couldn't find a thread already open that seemed a good spot for it. So if you find some awesome deals, go ahead and post them here.

Edit: It also looks like planescape torment is 50% off ($5)

Double Edit: I'm actually not sure if the MOO deal is one day only or a lasting thing. The bullfrog pack is a limited time thing, but the other games might be from now till january. Their site isn't really the best at showing what's discounted and for how long.

Duke Nukem 3D is completely free on GOG.com. You can't beat that price. I have never played a Duke Nukem game so this should be interesting...

DN3D is the best Duke Nukem game ever made, beating the two first ones even. Don't touch ANYTHING released after it though ;)

Also now I'm tempted to get MoO2. I loved that game as a kid. Yes, I actually used to be a child.

I just noticed Another World is half off there. On another note, I noticed they even -have- Another World (aka Out of This World).

This game is amazing, and is akin to Flashback, though in my opinion is a far superior game. It has a very cinematic feel, and puzzles in the gameplay that feel natural and make sense in the gameworld (an example being you can see the reflection of a guy patrolling below a chandelier, if you shoot the chandelier's chain at the right moment it'll fall down and smash him).

This one was an instant grab for me, I loved Another World (and to a lesser degree Flashback, which had an amazing first level, then felt tedious partway through the second).

Edit: Even though it's PC only, this one I'm willing to try delving into wine to get it to work.

Another World and Flashback were both awesome games, but I do agree with Flashback having a bit of a grindy mid game. The story was compelling though and the music AWESOME.

Another World blew my mind out of my skull with its graphics back in the day. I thought it was awesome.

Second both of those.  A friend and I played them straight through, none stop, alternating on each death.  I still can vividly remember both games to this day.

Gog's latest deal is on a bunch of indie RPGs.

The usual suspect of grimrock, geneforge (the entire series), and torchlight are there.

The one that look really interesting to me is The Real Texas.

Edit: Inquisitor looks like an interesting theme as well. I think if I grab any it'll be the real texas though.

Me myself I picked up Masters of Orion 1-2 and Total Annihilation. I foresee my production levels plummeting in the near future :D

I already own WAY too many games from GoG, but I did pick up SWAT 3, Imperialism, and Startopia. I also re-installed the Battle Isle Platinum pack because I've never actually played Incubation, and I'm thinking about firing up MOO2 again...

Tried out the gog downloader since I got a couple games, and even though its rather annoying to have another downloader and its not required at all, I like the GoG one. Nothing extra, no social features, it just downloads and shows you whats done and whats queued, along with the options menu for stuff like where to save things in and whether or not to auto-launch installers.

I'd like that the downloader could list my purchases. It has my credentials anyway so why don't it just fetch the available downloads list....
