The "5 For 5 Bundle"
« on: June 30, 2011, 03:40:23 pm »
Delete this if it's considered advertising, it's not my intention.

Has anyone seen this:

It's kind of like the Humble Indie Bundle except without the "pay what you want" aspect.

I'm debating it, to be honest, but the only game that really intrigues me is "Delve Deeper."

Neat!  I don't consider it advertising at all -- glad to have folks giving shout-outs to other indies and what they are doing. :)

Not to unfairly draw attention away from those other games that I've never heard of, but Delve Deeper is probably highly likely to go on sale on Steam, considering there is DLC for it that is part of the summer promotion. Although at the moment it still appears to be full price. Which is kind of odd, for a sale. Almost every other game on Steam has some % knocked off of it.

Speaking of the Steam Summer Sale, did you notice that The Zenith Remnant is one of the prizes available?

Does Arcen get any sort of payment for that? Obviously if you can't tell me, I won't be upset, I'm just curious. It's the one expansion my friend and I are missing.

I'm guessing, but I'd bet they probably don't get direct money for it. But it is an expansion that needs AI War to play, so they're getting indirect payment by people seeing the DLC, checking out the store page, buying the game and then using their summer tickets to get TZR. Plus, it's free advertising by having it in the list of prizes.

I can't comment directly to your question, but I will say that you shouldn't feel guilty about redeeming a prize whenever we do a contest or similar.  If we didn't want people to redeem them, we wouldn't be doing the contests in the first place. :)  So, without going into specifics, it's obviously worth it to us from some angle, be that marketing or otherwise.

I didn't really like Delve Deeper. It felt very raw and unfinished / unpolished when I tried it.

Yeah, I kind of wanted to like it more than I did. It was okay, but that was all. Nothing about it was particularly good, merely okay. It's telling that I've had it for months, and haven't played it except for once right after buying it.

Sorry for adding yet another sale to this, but The Longest Journey is on sale on Steam for $2.49 (and with its sequel for $6.48 total). It came out in 2000 and it is one of the best, if not THE best, point-and-click adventure titles. If you've never played it, GET IT. It's a sci-fi/fantasy adventure game with a very likeable cast of characters, including an amazingly well-handled protagonist (one of the most realistic and intelligent female protagonists in gaming, right up there with Jade from Beyond Good & Evil.)

The sequel is... less good, but still worth playing once for the great story (it changes to play more like an action-adventure but the gameplay mechanics are very poorly implemented.) I can't really say much about it, aside from the story and characters it is very forgettable.

And this does bring a bit of a tear to my eye. The adventure genre is my favorite, and it is pretty much dead, which is a huge shame. Anyone know of any adventure titles coming out, specifically indie titles? I'm not able to follow that scene as easily due to the fact that my RSS feeds (Digg Gaming and IGN) give indie news REALLY late.

EDIT: Good news, just convinced one of my friends to buy the AI War Alien Bundle, and working on another. That would be 4 of us, which sounds like a co-opgasmic blast.
