Telepath Tactics
« on: April 17, 2015, 07:38:10 am »
Anyone tried telepath tactics? The "8bit" graphics is really off-putting to me, how is the game-play?

Didn't hear about it but what is so wrong about 8-bit graphics?

Are they actually 8-bit or are they just pixel art?

I have no idea. I just personally do not like the games that in 2015 look like they are from 1990.

Certainly does not look 8bit. Or terrible for that matter, although to me it looks on the level of 'high-quality flash game'.

Well, yeah, I know that most people has higher tolerance to that sort of stuff than me. But I was more interested in discussing the gameplay (which I have not tried) rather than graphics.

That's not 8-bit. That's far from 8-bit graphic style.
If I should guess I woukld say it's a RPG Maker game (those games look almost identical on graphical base) but it could also just be the personal style of the art designer.

The game looks neither very appealing nor very unappelaing. It's somewhere in the mid. The maps look unfortunately a little plain. I won't judge the graphic style, that' debatable, but the battle maps look more or less all the same. Either it is a grassy plan with bushes and trees or it is more rpcky like, replacing trees with stones. Some water puddles are also there, probably just because of the appraised "environment battle system" so you can push an enemy into the puddle for some damage.
What I really don't like is the screenshot with the dinosaur like creature on it. There are everywhere pits (destroyed tiles?) that all have the same perfect square. They could have at least connected those pits to form a giant chasm but they decided for this unpleasant look.
Also, where are all the harzards they praised? I see only water and holes. No traps or anything like that.
I fear that this is just the generic "Final Fantasy tactics/Fire Emblem" clone with a new "twist" that's not even done properly.

Some stuff makes me however curious. The third screenshot shows a brief sequence of the battle and it seems you can summon creatures (Golem) but have to pay a fee for them. I like those systems with "great power but comes with a huge price". IÄm also curious what other classes there might be and how they play out.

Additnional note. In the reviews I read about a prequel (or something like that) called Telepath RPG that's aviable on Armor Games. Maybe you could check this out first before you decide? Maybe this gives you a better impression of the game as these screenshots and sloppy written description.

Fog of war.  Or, if you read what the lizard is saying, you'd know that the area was dark ("Yes, the darkness will be our cloak").  The way they did it is certainly odd, but it reveals some information about the obscured tiles (such as how far away things are and what the terrain is).

I kickstarted this game and have been playing it since it released.  I'm quite impressed with the game play.  The maps are really well balanced (read: tough but fair).  There are a lot of classes and abilities.  The gimmick of being able to interact with the environment works pretty well.   A lot of elements in the environment are destructible.  There's a class that can build bridges, blow up bridges, and create barriers.  It's more than just pushing people into puddles (although dunking enemies off a bridge is pretty fun).

The graphics are what they are.  It's a low budget flash game.  I will say I like the animations a lot though.  The story is kind of hit and miss.  There is some really snappy dialog at points, and there's also some really cringe worthy dialog.

I haven't played any of the FFT or Fire Emblem games, so I can't compare, but I feel like the game play depth compares pretty favorably to the PC tactics games I've played like Battle for Wesnoth and Banner Saga.
