Uuuugh, another game that looks really interesting but I've bought WAY too many recently.  Like, seriously, must be 10 new ones in the last 2 weeks.  I cant remember what half of them are.  Mostly been playing SuperHot because it's bloody awesome.

how's it going? this game is still great but It is rather repetitive in ways I've come to realise although I'm enjoying the loop and theme enough to ignore that.

Well, it seems like basically EVERY game that uses random generation is repetitive in some way or another.  I guess it just goes with the territory.  Just depends on if the devs can keep enough depth and variation in there for it not to get old.

I dont mind the repetition in these myself though.  I like big replay value in games, and I like it when the "exploration" aspect of a game doesnt just totally run out after the first time through.

You still have less games then me, Misery :-P

About the thing ith floor 5: Yeah, this was surprisingly empty compared to all floors below. I think the last floor on every area (but this is just a guess) is mainly for putting the oxygen and thermal regulator back in the machines, so you can finally turn them on.
I won't do this anyway until I can make MK2 reactot modules, because I cannot handlemore areas then the 4 production areas that have to be always on for me and one additional area for exploration. Once I can build MK2 modules, I have more energy at hand, so this won't be a problem anymore.

You won't be building a lot of MK2 reactors even then since you will be always resourced starved until you find software 3/4... I also don't really get what the deal is with the 5th floor in the first 4 near areas, it's completely pointless to even go there as you never have a reason to go back cleaning first 3 areas reduces infection well enough for you to not go to 30% anytime soon. You will spending enough time on the far areas, which are substantially larger... and even in those you first goal should be level 3 and then you go to the other far areas first to at least reduce infection somewhat and still have a chance for those random tech 3/4 drops..

And the mk2 filters also only reduce infection marginally so they are completely useless waste of precious resources ,)

Spoiler for Hiden:
Btw, generators are always on levels 3/5 in the first 4 areas. ;P

I basically cleared the first half of the game, tech 2 software in all things.. and a few mk2 reactors, now on to tech3/4 finding and then it's basically just the starport...

1 I think I've got about 80 ish games? mostly because I don't buy games very often usually I buy them when I feel I'm willing to try them immediately its pretty rare for me to just have a game I haven't done anything with at all
2 super hot is pretty dam rad funny thing though well when I was playing the game and beat it there was a bug which reduced the frame rate a lot for high end machines which meant the game was way way slower than its meant to be how ever I didn't know this and thought it was normal and its the speed I was used to playing then well.......it got patched and now I find the game really hard to play because I'm so used to the speed it used to be
3 fair enough it is true although I suppose its more a perspective thing really games tend to always be repetitive in nature its really about how well they can keep you from noticing
4 yea pretty much although oxygen/thermal thing is more keeping infection back since( at least for my self) I tend not to go back to areas after I've got floor 5 since I've usually looted aboustley everything.

there's different tech levels of filters? I had no idea? btw I disagree that setting up filters is useless at least for the 3rd floor(I haven't explored the bigger areas than the ones with 5 floors yet mostly just because I like getting them out of the way loot wise) having oxygen on means I can ditch my 2 oxygen tanks(one in inventory to switch out to when I run out) which makes my runs hell of a lot more efficient due to less inventory space being taken up.
ps just out of curiosity did you get the game after seeing this thread like vampire? I'm amused that my attempt to find out if this game is worth trying has turned into an first impressions of a sort

Well this thread definitely made me check out the demo ;P

And yeah, you can research everything where it says so on the tooltip ^^

most importantly is finding tech 2 to get larger backpack.. where you will quickly realize that those 7kg for extra reserves are basically ok to spare anyway, since you don't usually have to take more than 2 food items with you, ever) you find tons of food in the game ;) Once you get advanced medic stuff you also only need 2 of each for a deep run

And don't get me wrong, if I have the time I always do floor 5, I just think that the game wastes its potential by not being more random loot kind of deal. Also it buggers me we are the only survivor ;p

So far I haven't yet decided whether it's a good game or not... I instantly wished it had more RPG elements.

1 lol! this is almost the exact same thing that happened when I asked about thea the awakening except I kind of forgot about that thread and the game it self as well(speaking of which I should return to that game especially with the free dlc coming out for it)

2 interesting if It truly does end up like that when I one day find the lvl 2 engineering chip(please don't tell me were it is id like to find them my self) if the filters truly do become pointless from then on I might just point that out to the dev

3 true although don't forget the food you find isn't infinite (especially with the rng involved) and the food that is infinite is a little crappy and I think will make you super contaminated quick which by the way in the non direct battle dangers appears to be the most dangerous thing in this game mainly because finding enough blood for decontamination pills is quite difficult

4 does anybody here think that electronics are to sparse? there's an interesting discussion going on in the steam forums about this right now http://steamcommunity.com/app/340490/discussions/0/451852225139192437/ and I wanted to find out what your perspective on this is

Yeah, I store all my food in central.. I have a box with 200+ food and water items that I dragged right in front of the tube and another with all the medical supplies I have.. it's a lot of it but certainly more limited than food. Btw you never have to worry about food or water, you find so much in central and the first 4 areas that it lasts you the entire game... that's assuming you don't eat unless you absolutely have to. And if you run out, you can grow it in the biosphere too... all the fruits there give 5% to 2% (depends) for each need.

I have to give this game credit though that it invokes a great atmosphere... as usual I'd say the game has potential to be great at some point, if the developer sticks with it, adds maybe a 3rd basic system to the levels (water purification) as well as a few more characters that survived. Also absolutely required are imo more diverse levels. Maybe by traveling over mars where we have a vehicle that we can build with custom parts and then drive to outposts to find a more detailed story or maybe some characters...

Anyway, for 12€ this game is certainly very nice so far ;) It's not often I buy a game after playing the demo but in this case the demo left me wanting for more, and this is imo always a sign that it's at least a decent game.

Ps.: Loot is really, REALLY random ;p I think this is the first and most important thing to keep in mind. I don't swim in resin but I don't think the game want's you to become much more powerful much faster than it already does allow it. Those mk2 and mk3 filters are imo completely useless anyway, as you don't have any incentive to keep outer sectors powered on and even if you do, all those filters do is reduce the infection growth speed by a few %, they don't decrease infection level whatsoever.

I think those filters should give debuffs to the mutants so that I ever have any incentive to ever build MK3 filters... all I do is use MK1 filters everywhere, they are MUCH cheaper to produce, Mk2 filters need stuff you are seriously gonna regret wasting later on. Believe me on that.

1 200? I can believe that considering how much food I managed to find just returning to the prison
2 yea the atmospheres is awesome in fact its probably the games strongest part
3 well considering that the game apparently didn't sell very and he's planning on making enougher then I really don't think that's going to happen but imagine he would have if the game sold better considering that there's already art work of the outside of mars (that rooms kind of awesome actually although have windows makes aboustley at all)
4 yea the whole other survivor thing is something I cant imagine happening mainly because of the sales thing again but I think that would be cool as long as you didn't have escort them back because that would just be silly you'd also have to make it so that he didn't get on the tram in till you finish what ever your doing and return to it.

To be honest when I say survivor I think more of "Newt" than "Master Sgr Mc Gunnery" ;)

You could carry him/her back, and he/she would be essentially able to defend central to some extend, but be in danger of infection and injury if you don't assist (You will know what I mean when you are further in)

Also I just had an hilarious moment in this game ;) I researched the
Spoiler for Hiden:
plasma weapon
and figured I should probably test fire the prototype before I come close to enemies, and good thing I did, the shot was powerful, but the weapon was melting hot and the char dropped it.. note to self; Research better cooling attachments ;P

Also I just found the Biosphere Lvl 3 chip in
Spoiler for Hiden:
Piscies lvl 3
;p And those outer levels are extremely tough. (25% infection) So I realized I should probably change my load out, I now bring 2 weapons of each type into my deep runs, and 2 medium extra energy, oxygen and thermal tanks. The outer areas are not something you wanna go to and from a lot, travel time an hour to and and hour from..... wasting 2 hours each cycle isn't helping my chances on the other 3 outer areas.

All things considered, it's sad this doesn't sell well because this is by far one of the most unique games of this type I ever played giving you a clear incentive to not just "sit" around in your base is smart.

1 I know exactly what your talking I've gotten killed by bleeding once although bone breaking doesn't bother me to much at the moment that'll probably change though
2 yes it is quite unfortunate that it didn't sell well but the community still seems to be going strong that's probably mostly because of the games time in early access though.

so I've taken a break from the game for the time being to play enougher thing that took my eye but has any of you noticed how enemies spawn in places you've already explored and cleared? as in there's no way anything could ever come from there to fight you? it drives me nuts because it means I tend to get hit from behind with no way of predicting it does it bother any of you at all?.

That's part of the game. There are infection levels and incetion rates. The former gives you a vague number how many enemies might be in the level. The later shows how fast new enemies will spawn. Even if you kill anything this does not mean an area is "clear" it just means that you have killed the current infection but new infection might still spread. Where this new infected come from is not explained. They might come from another part of the colony or maybe the dead mutants rise up again.
You can lower however the speed at which new enemies might spawn. Betetr filters, killing all enemies int he area and ajacent areas  will lower the infection rate. I'm not sure however if you can drop it to 0 like in the control room.

However, I do agree that enemies sometimes seem to spawn right in your way or only five steps away from, just outside of view but still close enought that you will walk into them. I think the spawning system is a little broken that it spawns enemies too close to you.

sorry I should have been more clear I meant them spawning while your still in the level for instance fully exploring and clearing a room and then turning around and getting hit by something that just spawned into said room.

Today the Purifictaion Update came out, a big content update (and probably the last because the developers are now turning towards a new game). It is entirely free for everyone who owns the game already (no dlc) but the game itself costs now 2€ more.

I haven't played it (yet) but the patch notes say (without going into detail) that there are now boss encounters (hooray!), multiple cutscenes, more story elements to share some light on the backstory of the protagonist, more soundtrack, more endings and to sum it up more of everything.
Oh, also random floor generation and voice acting have been added.

It's probably a good time to get back into the game because this looks very promising, especially the design of the first revealed boss so far.
