Steam Wintersale

Wintersale has started, you can write here what games you have bought and why.

I will buy ARK this time but not today. Tomorrow maybe. I did however buy the missing parts of Sorcery. I didn't see that part 4 was already released and that since September. How embarassing. I woned already 1 and 2 on my phone, but since they did cost only 3 more in the packet, I got them as well. I will probably start from the beginnign to enjoy the whole journey as one entity and not as sperated games. The game also added recently New Game plus, that's how I came to know that part four has been released. It means you can start again at part 1 with your save game after the end.

Bought Notrium since it was cheap. Its an top down rogue-lite survival game that I never finsihed.

Also AuroraRL, was cheap and it looks nice.

You can also vote now on the Steam Awards but the nominations are terrible honestly. it does not surpirse me in the least but for multiple awards they used the same games over and over. Not a good idea in my eyes but whatever...

I'm semi-interested in the awards, haven't looked at the nominations for the ones-yet-to-vote-on, TBH.
But the thing I noticed was that voting on the current day gets you ONE steam card (towards a set of 9).  Summer sale was--hold on.  Ah, I forgot to check the usual suspect.  One card from voting two from doing your queue (compared to Summer's 3-per-day for the queue).

Oh, for the good old days of real deals...  Nothing I've seen so far. 

Tempted to get Dragon's Dogma and Dark Maus. 
Almost good enough deals on HyperDevotion Noire, Witcher 3 GOTY, and Watch_Dogs... if they'd include their DLC, I'd probably get them.
Then you have games like Dominions 4 or Guild of Dungeoneering that I'm interested in, but have been on sale for half their current sale price more than once before... I might succumb one of these days anyway, but the idea annoys me.

(Yes, I AM cheap.  How'd you guess?)

Edit:  Salt and Sanctuary is on sale.  Hmm.  People here have said good things about it.  If I did buy it, I'd be unlikely to get to playing it for the next 6-months-to-a-year, since I have quite a backlog - is it worth getting it just to have it for that 'someday'?

That's what's largely fueling my "not buy anything" feeling: nothing on my wishlist is something I want to play right freaking now.  A couple of them are more "research" than "enjoyment" (e.g. "oh, a real-time stealth game, I should see what they did and if its fun").

Uhhh, I agree on that and I tend to say the same but in reality I buy stuff anyway and then forget about it for a long time. I have a lot of games that I haven't played so far. However, at some point I pick one of them up because none of my "typical" games is currently interesting for me and then I like it and play it a lot. Happened multiple times already. For example Valdis City. Had this game a long time and didn't bother to play it, finally decide to start it and suddenly I have a real fun time. I played the game so hard for days, I couldn't stop actually, so entertaining was it. i wanted to find everything (but still haven't) that there is in the game, I completed it multiple times with 3 of 4 characters.
I can recommed the game btw, it's a Metroidvania-type of game.

But I still think you shouldn't buy mindlessy, I am a bad example of that.

My problem with not buying games when they're on sale for a decent price is primarily that once it's been on sale, I'm unlikely to buy it again until the next sale.  But if halfway between the Summer and Winter sale, I decide I'm ready to play that game - but it isn't on sale - it gets put off again, and something else played.  Then I'm not ready to play it when the sale rolls around, and the cycle repeats.

Anyway, I've so far picked up Grim Dawn, and also the various expansions for Hero Siege; a game I'd originally bought quite awhile ago, but rather forgot about quickly as that was during a time period when my arm had gone bad again.  Normally I don't buy things when that's going on, because of that simple fact of me tending to forget they exist due to not playing them right away.  So far that game is a boatload of fun.  It's like Diablo meets Robotron.  And anything that meets Robotron is good in my book.

Screw those maggot things though.  Them and their disturbing pink blobs that are so aggravating.

Well, Steam's entire external connection went down, and at the same time a script-kiddie group started bragging about it on Twitter.
It IS possible that they were just lying.  But in that case, it meant Steam lost 100% network capability to the game servers, the login servers, and the web servers, and has been down (for something like 3 hours now?) without saying anything.  Last year, when they went down due to the overloading, it was intermittent support - try 20 times, get a response once.  This year it was 100% up, then BAM! 100% down.

Either way, it's very annoying.  How can I spend money on things I don't need if Steam is down?

Anyway, going to complete my Pinball Arcade collection. Seriously considering Master of Orion, but I can't tell whether I'm going to be disappointed or not. I am not a Master of Orion purist, I just like a good 4X adventure. I like the originals so, just really tempted. Going to look around a bit more.

Hero Siege started currently Season 2 of ranked, if you ever want to do that together Misery, hook me up.
Also, yeah, I hate the maggots to, actually everyone I know who plays this game hates them. The reason for this is, the acid slime is hard to spot and the game does not give a visual indicationt hat you are currently standing in a pool of acid and your feet are already melting.
Seriously, is it so hard to give me some sort of warning that I should NOT STAND THERE?!
The DPS is also freaking high on that things, I died more tot them than to actual bosses.

Biggest thing bothering me about this sale, is that no Warhammer Total War DLC is on sale, which makes the DLC (elves/warbeasts/kings/grim) more expensive than the game (which is also only 25% off.. )

Is it just me, or are the sales getting absurdly bad?

I think this was the best sale in a while. Also, big publishers tend to leave worse price drops than indie game titles. Because they have a bigger attention than smaller studios they can allow themself to keep bigger prices. Smaller srudios have to force big price drops, so people even consider buying their game first hand. They get also a lot of more attention as when they would be for their full price.

The dlc will pretty much go on sale when the game moves out of attention of people and they want to attract new customers/new sale numbers.

There are other games, good games, that have good price drops. That the AAA studios don't go the same path doesn't surprise me.

They dropped the prices only big during the flash sales and since these are gone, they stick to a constant 25% at best.
