Steam reviews beta
« on: November 27, 2013, 08:43:04 pm »
So Valve has rolled out a new feature (in beta) for Steam users called Steam reviews. Pretty much what it sounds like, users can post positive/negative reviews (no scores) that show up on the game's Steam page.

There's been some nice posts already on our games in particular, but a lot of fellow indies are complaining about trolling reviews that give the respective game a negative review with a five word explanation that suggests the user has likely never even played it. Anyway, figured I'd mention it here for those who might be interested in sharing thoughts on our titles and other Steam games directly with those who could be considering a purchase.

So they expanded the recommendations then?

I don't read reviews for a popularity contest. I'm looking for insights into the game itself. Anyone who takes a five word review seriously has bigger problems.

Regrettably, a very large chunk of the potential audience has bigger problems.

This problem is not unique, to pc, to games, or to...anything involving an audience.

Do we need to do anything to existing recommendations turned reviews, or have to assign a score? I know I wrote one on AVWW2 awhile ago.

You need to write something to have it show up as a review instead of just the recommendation. There's no scores though, it's thumbs up/down. Also you need to own the game in question, and if you click through the reivew itself is shows you how many hours the reviewer has put into it (or at least it did for me).

I went through to look, you have to change the review to public from friends only.
