statcounter vs google analytics
« on: June 12, 2011, 10:10:14 pm »
This is more question to Chris, but if others have thought in this regard you are welcome to share.

This forum uses statcounter for accumulating usage statistics. I've been using the same service for my private site for many years too. But it seems that today there is little reason if any not to use Google Analytics instead.

So why this forum uses statcounter? Is this something up bundled up with the forum software (SMF)?

On our general site, we actually use both. I find that google analytics is better for long-term trends, but statcounter is better for to-the-minute tracking. People sometimes wonder how they mention Arcen and then I appear? That's how. It's not the mention, it's the link in topic site, which then I see on statcounter. Though we also use google alerts, bu in most cases that has more of a lag on alerting us.
