Disharmony brought a few of its own bugs, but its generally a solid addition to ES.

And this is how the story ends: http://steamcommunity.com/app/220660/discussions/0/846965705271463299/#p1
Ok, well, at least he honestly told everyone he was abandoning the game.  That's slightly better than just disappearing and letting people hope...

So, final evaluation:  Do not buy.
Basic concepts are good, but the implementation needs major work.  Endgame is unplayable on all but the smallest maps due to OutOfMemory errors.  The 'Storyline' quests is only partially implemented, so you get a short ways into it, then everything stops.  Minor factions and similar lesser quests aren't implemented at all, aside from one single intro text.  The AI is very bad.  Diplomacy doesn't really work.  The economy is not well balanced.  Ship equipment balance is horrible:  Some things are useful, many are useless, and some are so OP broken it isn't funny.  Many UI issues remain.

Very sad.  I wanted this game to be a good one, since it really looked like it was trying to be a real 4X game... but the curse of the modern 4X continues.

When indie devs do this kinda thing, it doesn't annoy me so much that I wasted my money. What galls me is how much undeserved revenue the developer raked in from the sheer number of people who got suckered. I feel like I'm rewarding bad behavior.

I wouldn't think it safe to stop development of a group of space bears.

They might get bored.  And hungry.  And looking for your pic-a-nic baskets.

Just another reminder to not buy a game before it implements its promised features. What a mess...

Yep, I learned the hard way this time. Can't believe he's not even going to add multiplayer before abandoning it. I won't be purchasing any of his future titles.

I certainly don't condone not delivering on promising multiplayer (iirc he did so in the kickstarter, which means legal action is theoretically a possibility here), but I can certainly believe him leaving that out once he's decided to ditch out.  Adding multiplayer to an engine/model that's not well suited to it (and designed from the ground up for it) could easily be a harder project than the whole rest of the game thus far.

Thus a reminder for developers to make sure they can actually implement whatever they promise before they promise it.

I'm not sure I've ever known that ahead of time :)  Though I try to be careful to not actually promise... well, anything, until it's past the point where I'm concerned it won't be feasible.  Sometimes what I think isn't a promise people still read as a promise, though.

Anyway :)

It seems that the admission of defeat (as it were) could have been handled much, much better too. Did he even offer at the very least an apology for not delivering on a key promised feature?

That does beg the question, why build a engine/model not from the ground up with multiplayer, when the game was promised multi-player from the start.

I find the whole post interesting...at first says don't buy it because it is dead...then says the original game is perfectly fine and from there a tirade of excuses of why he is not wrong for the most part.
Life is short. Have fun.
