Anyone ever hear of this? http://store.steampowered.com/app/211820/

It seems to have come out of nowhere.

Iirc that's by some of the same people behind Terraria, and I've seen several mentions of it by RPS articles.  Good to see it's apparently coming along.

If by "out of nowhere" you mean dozens of reviews by MindCrackers (TotalBiscuit, DocM, Yogscast...), the RPS article, and tons of other press over the last several months.

Then yeah.

Yep, it's I think just by the artist behind Terraria, and someone else.  At least that's what I recall hearing when they started teasing this back when they announced that Terraria updates would be ceasing.  Mainly due to creative differences as I understand it.

It's definitely been on my radar for awhile and seems promising.  I never got into Terraria but I'll definitely give this a try.  It seems like the type of game that would be pretty fun to play coop!

That said, if anybody has played it yet, how's the inventory system? That can really make or break a crafting system, and I honestly think most games do it exceedingly poorly.

I don't have the links available atm, but I did see that Totalbiscuit has recently done a couple videos of him playing this, and I think they are MP too.

Tiy, Terraria's artist, is the only member of the Terraria dev team working on Starbound.

From what I've seen so far, the inventory system is pretty good. You can have up to 999 items in a stack, and twice the inventory space as Terraria. I haven't played that much yet though.

Heh, it definitely looks like the difficulty needs some fine-tuning.

I was tempted by it on steam few days ago.
But after burning myself on few early accesses I'm not so keen on taking on new ones.
(And I'm trying to keep my game budget in check..)

So many other promising games out now too.  Frozen endzone, steam world dig, and king Arthur's gold to name a few newly released/early accessed games.

Has anybody given king Arthur's gold a try? It looks like a team versus game with terraria esque castle building. Not to derail the thread too much ;) it seems like the starbound thought is a universal wait and see but looks cool, heh.

Yea, when I see "Early Access" I experience an automatic ocular translation of "Do Not Buy Yet" ;)  I mean, if they went on 75%-off or steeper I might, but that'd be really odd for a pre-release promotion.

I'm also interested in King Arthur's Gold, though as usual there's my standing question of multiplayer-team-games: does it have a bots option?  Are they at least functional (if not particularly challenging)?

You mean like Contagion?  I picked up a 4 pack (split it with a few people).  So ~$3 each and the game doesn't even work.  I've sent two emails to their support address, no reply.

I figured at $3 it was worth the risk, even if it wasn't finished.  I didn't expect that the game would crash just past the main menu.

Yea, $3 is an acceptable "I may get nothing at all out of this" level for me if the game idea is one I want to encourage.

That said, I'd probably poke around the related fora a bit to see if it's one of those "I can't get past the main menu" situations.
