That is not the GUI lag I mean.. I mean for example, what happens when you press on create fleet (delay) or click on research (delay) or the battle reports. All these subsystems are not kept in memory, and I have 16GB Ram. There is absolutely no excuse for GUI lag (I don't mean the first-load lag, I mean recurring, and worsening delays for GUI actions over long gameplay periods)

Lag plagues AI war also on suitably large games, and I have a ton of memory also. Doesn't mean it's a crappy game, does it? It's just one of the warts.

Yep. That's why I have disabled explosions and munitions and armor boost lines in AI War.

I'm with you on munitions and armor boosting lines, but explosions?  I don't think I could ever be convinced to turn off explosions.

If I turn explosions on I lag like hell even though I have a pretty good computer. I should upgrade my graphics card though. But still.. I think explosions started causing lag after some patch. No idea what patch it was.

Something isn't right then. I don't know much about that particular graphic to see why it's so costly. It seems like something that could be spell-rendered efficiently, which would put more work on the graphics card (where it should be).

The "Enhanced Edition" and extra content just came out for it, so I re-installed. Haven't gotten very far yet, but so far it's definitely as enjoyable as the first one was. Everything seems to be there and working and the UI doesn't suck quite as bad anymore.

I'll have a better opinion when I start running into other races and start fighting and trading and all that fun stuff, but it seems solid so far.
