To be fair FF13 and FF13-2 at least is not like that.

It has it's classy moments though

+1 Final Fantasy XIII. Say what you will about where this franchise has gone, there is a lot of fun to be had in these games. Plenty of secrets, insane battles (some of them are optional), cool characters and … I could go on. It has its flaws like everything else, but I've only had a good time with those products.

Wow, am I going to get tarred and feathered here for liking this game?  :-\

I mean I'm fine with the fact it's the old Soldak game with more stuff added, then again I'm also a fan of StarWraith and Spiderweb who do the same thing so I'm fine with just iterating on what's already there.

I like the direction town/village NPCs are going in Zombasite.
Din's Curse got a few extra functions for NPCs with the Demon War expansion, but it stayed rather minor feature in that game didn't get expanded as much as I would have wanted.
In Zombasite this bit gets more fleshed out with NPCs getting a subset of player classes and combat skills/abilities, more behavior/personality modifiers that can change over time, individual relationship values between NPCs, non-combat attributes (crafting and such), and the ability to bring them with you in a party.
The latest patch added more NPC management elements allowing you to assign them to focus on guarding, working, and resting which is also nice.
It can still use more work of course, but I like that this part of the game is getting more dev this time.

I do like how in Zombasite you can pretty much raise an army and raid other clans out of existence if you want to, unlike Drox where you were pretty much a solo actor (not that that was a bad thing in Drox, just different).

I also like that Zombasite gives quests priority numbers to give a rough idea idea of which ones are more "urgent". In Din's Curse and Drox Operative you kind of had to trial and error until you figured out which quests and/or events were important (like how recon totems were worth dropping everything to destroy ASAP).
Sure it was somewhat fun to working out what was more important and what leads to what, but I get the impression a lot of players didn't really get to the bottom of that and therefore never got to the sort of metagame manipulation/exploitation that was fun to do in those games.

So yeah, I'm going to be the odd one out and say that I've been enjoying Zombasite so far.  :P

I agree with you on every point.  So that makes two of us that like it.

I think most of the people who have said they don't like it are basing their dislike off the trailer?

I think every opinion so far has been in reaction to the trailer yes. I don't know how many have actually played it yet. And no, there will be no tar nor feathers. On this board, people are allowed to have differing tastes ^^

That said, Din's Curse both sounds and look pretty bad, even for its age, but it's still a good game. Especially with the community rebalance mod.

There were a couple of times when warnings were given and threads were locked when certain old-timers... ehm... disagreed with each other.

Actually that kind of "disagreement" was never over differing tastes in video games.

The two times it happened were over a discussion about conspiracy theories, and then of course, the infamous discussion about Core Shield Generators, which for some reason ALWAYS seems to produce the most seething kind of salty butthurt rage every time it's brought up.

To my knowledge nobody has ever been tarred and feathered over liking different kinds of games. Some of the MOBA discussion have gotten pretty intense, but have always managed to stay respectful, and I think many of us learned from those, and found value in the games we were originally opposed to.

Yep, can't argue with any of these  :)

I do remember those time, actually. We've lost a couple of valuable members over such discussions. But in general, I'd say this board is VERY friendly and respectful.

A couple things. In the off-topic forum, there was a thread about a conspiracy theory that got very argumentative. I was one of the participants in that. Don’t regret a sentence of it. I’m tired of scrolling through websites where you see scary images of vaccinations, dimly lit toothbrushes (fluoride fear mongering), and whatever the latest conspiracy issue of the day is. These people don’t even know the facts, don’t bother to research it, but they proudly begin posting on social media and their favorite website all about their tinfoil hat theories. And there’s entire websites devoted to this!

For example, one of the leading causes of fatalities for women is cervical cancer. We now have a vaccine that can help prevent it. But people don’t want to take it because of Facebook conspiracy theories. In America, there is a line of thinking saying that vaccinations will cause autism. In another country, there is a belief that this vaccination will cause the woman to end up in a wheelchair. It’s so interesting, in that you see the similar fear mongering and conspiracy theory flag flying, but the end result of what nightmarish thing will occur if you get vaccinated is completely different. It’s so sad, too, because there’s a reason we don’t worry about polio anymore. There’s a reason we don’t worry about a lot of diseases that used to actually kill people. But now we have to take a step backwards as a society because of conspiracy theorists spreading their lies across the Internet, favorite websites, and social media. And for some reason (well, maybe it’s not surprising), a lot of these conspiracy theories are coming from the right wing.

Don’t believe me? How many lies about President Obama have there been in the last 8 years? How many chain emails?

I don’t think a lot of people pay attention to their public education, or maybe they never got the lesson on critical thinking. They don’t know what a primary source is. They don’t know how to do research, how to gather information, how to cross reference sources, how to put a claim through rigorous investigation. They don’t know how to look at advertisements, graphics, or listen to what other people are saying through a critical lens. I think that’s important to know how to do.

And as far as core shield generators go, what a disaster of a discussion. If it had only been an optional flag to begin with, it never would have turned into that. We went from having an open galaxy to being threatened with having a galaxy on rails, and a huge discussion ensued. I’m happy with the result, though, as now you have a choice. A lot of people fought for that choice. Even if you don’t like the huge argument, I think that the community saved the game.

I was with you until this point.  There is as at least as much misinformation coming from the left.  No right-thinking person from either side of the political spectrum thinks vaccines and fluoridated water are dangerous.  You're just creating even more division by positing such baseless theories.  Leave that stuff to the people you are criticizing.

Bringing this back to Zombasite because holy crap I don't want to touch conspiracy theories with a 100ft pole right now. Though I do agree with mrhanman. To say that misinformation comes from one side of the political sphere is just not true. As someone who is a moderate, I see it from both sides of the fence so much its infuriating. (Which I've vented about this on Facebook one too many times heh).

Yes, my criticisms of the game are based on the trailer. It as mostly aimed at expressing my frustration that good developers still aren't even doing the very basics of good marketing/advertising a game on Steam these days. But part of it was that this game looks bad and visuals can say a lot about the quality of the game even if it isn't true. Gorgeous games are often considered great games even when they aren't. Vice Versa and so forth. It's without a doubt in my mind that they don't sell as well as they should if they don't even slightly look better than Unity-produced titles. The game might be great and I won't disparage them for that (until if/when I play it that is) but still...

I actually have a lot more links for both of those things. I think people think that being a moderate means not being able to criticize either side, but there is a reason why they call it Faux News.

Another point is, the left and the right- at least in America- are not equidistant from the middle. Today's Democrat is actually yesterday's moderate. Today's Republican is so far to the right as to be a comic book character.

Just a quick google turned up the following stories:

http://www.forwardprogressives.com/the-anti-vaccine-movement-is-the-lefts-intellectual-problem-with-science/
http://blogs.discovermagazine.com/intersection/2011/04/20/vaccine-denial-and-the-left/#.Vj1sVByrSUk

There are plenty of others, each with even more sources branching off from them.  I really don't want to get mired in a political discussion on the internet, so I'm gonna finish by just saying that there are stupid people on either side of the aisle, and it's a sisyphean task to attempt to prove that "my side has fewer morons than your side."

Let's just be friends and call it a day.

I give you examples of people running for public office, the presidency even. How about climate change? Is it the left or the right which can't admit to climate change, even when running for president? Is it the right or the left which can't accept gay people? Is it the right or the left which has numerous issues with woman's rights? Is it the right or the left which uses the bible most often to whip up votes or to justify behavior? Or put a different way, the Bible Belt votes for which party? There is no doubt that the crazy comes from the right, even if you find examples from the left, which I would also denounce.

You may remember this famous conspiracy theorist, who had his own segment on Fox News!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RO1timWATHE

There's just no equivalent for that on the left. I have no doubt you can find left-wing conspiracy theorists, but that's not disproving my point that most of this stuff is coming from the right wing and from prominent personalities.
