To be fair, there are much better board games to be playing.. Like Civilization, the board game.
i just spent the last 5 hours playing a game of agricola with my family.. it should not have taken anywhere near that long :|

Anyway, yes - those are generally problems with sustained connection requirement games. As mentioned, d3 was a big one recently released by a fairly big company who shouldve been able to anticipate the load.. And yet still had problems.

I've heard of (but not played) a game that puts that to shame due to its epic length. I seriously hope nobody does it all in one session.

Edit: Just going to add I make no claims of quality or the like. Just that it seems like the GoT board game cranked up to 11 (neither of which I tried). My Goldilocks of war games is Cosmic Encounter. Right combination of strategy, bluffing, and luck. Combined with variety and a playing time that doesn't drag. Not that I'm an expert - I've barely played any other similar games.

Double edit: Also going into serious off topic territory here :D

I played some Die Macher.. Pretty long, but not quite that long. Also, some of the 18xx games can get pretty long.. But still, 7 hours? No game should take that long.

I'm actually not quite sure about Cosmic Encounter - Its barely actually a board game in the first place, I feel like strategy is only barely there. Dont get me wrong, it does well in the bluffing and luck department..

I tend to prefer Eclipse (or, Space Empires the board game).. But those are slightly deeper than CE.

Since most of my board gaming is with more casual players, I would never get to play the likes of Eclipse or other things like that - much as it might interest me! Cosmic Encounter is gamy (and variable) enough that I can play it and have fun, but shallow enough that I can teach it without blowing somebody's mind and them actually being able to follow it enough to have fun too.

Edit: Playing with the race that swaps your "attack card" with the opponent really introduces all kinds of fun mind games too :D

Double Edit: And 7 hours is just the -listed- time. Imagine having to learn, and then looking up rules during play constantly, etc.
