quite possible. But since when were something profound and deeply analysed ever expressed in 140 characters or less and on Twitter? It's the king of reactionism. :)  Making a reddit shitstorm about a tweet is really... Wow.

It is kind of funny how millions of people can say millions of stupid things on the internet every day without significant consequence, but every now and then one is singled out and someone hooks up the sewer system to the climate system.

I guess that's the volcanism of bitching. Pressure builds up over time, and once critical mass is reached someone succeeds in making someone else look like a villian/idiot/danger in front of a lot of people.

If by sharks, you mean bored, sexually frustrated boys, then yes.

TotalBiscuit is just a person who makes YouTube videos about video games. He's a terribly small person who is adored by other terribly small persons.

He tries, though. He makes videos about video games, and will try to send messages to change the video game industry for the better. It's a far cry better than the people who just make videos about them fumbling around in video games and make money off of it. Admittedly, video game industry problems should be a low level concern, because there are a lot of higher level concerns. The thing is, he didn't choose to even be involved in stuff like that. He chose to be involved in the video game industry, he chose to do his best to make changes and improvements that he cares about. Who makes video game videos that even tries to do stuff like that? I at least have respect for that side of him.

I honestly agree, as well, but with the whole sharing frenzy of stuff on youtube. I understand, say, sharing a post about local dogs who need a new owner or something... but then there are the people who are even my friends who change their profile picture and pretend that it's a campaign that will really hit home on LGBT rights. If they wanted to make a difference, they'd vote, they'd go out and talk to other people, they'd write letters and make videos and protest. Hash tags and profile pictures don't do shit anywhere.

People do the best they can with what they have. Some of us fight for consumer rights, some of us fight world hunger and others help people in their own small way.

That said, the hashtags and profile picture changing is about the laziest and pointless bit of "helping" people can do for others.

It's not helping people in need, it's helping their own conscience. Act like you did something good, and your brain will give you the same feeling no matter whether there actually were beneficial effects for society - as long as you believe to be in the right, no matter how pointless or inefficient your actions may be - you get the happy hormones.

Probably has to do with the unfortunate fact that you can't measure said beneficial effects or whether something actually helped someone. Modern activism is more of a religion than a movement. Or a circle-jerk, depending on your view on things.

Best use of the word "circle jerk" I've seen in a while. Anyway, just wanted to say this was a very useful derailing of the original thread. Whether or not you agree with total biscuit, I think he has some very useful YouTube videos. I wish he would review more games that I would find enjoyable.
