Violent Video Games Cause an Increase in Aggression Long After the Game Has Been Turned Off

http://www.eurekalert.org/pub_releases/2010-09/sp-vvg091710.php

According to this scientific study, people who play violent video games _and_  think about them, tend to be more violent than people who don't. It seems to be okay to play violent video games, provided that you are a woman, or, if you are male, that you don't think about the game when you are  not  playing.

Which means, that I must be a very violent person, as I am of the male persuasion and tend to think about games more than actually playing them.

I wonder what politicians will have to say about this. I am pretty sure that they will go for some kind of prohibition, but will they prohibit video games or thinking? My guess is, that they will prohibit thinking, as most people don't think very much anyway.

Rubbish.

We all know where this is going.  Video games are being targeted; targeted by people who don't understand gaming,  industries that are competitors to gaming, and by the Sparta-inspired public health systems that despise any form of sedentary activity.  If these three groups have their druthers, gaming will make the verboten list just under cigarettes and fast food.

I think such studies are rather rubbish really. :)

Politicians will use this as ammunition of course, they always do. They want to control you and like to present you with "current threats to society". And it goes in cycles, sometimes its music, sometimes its games and whatever.

But when I am am asked to think about a violent game, will think about violence. But that does not mean I am a violent person :).

All of it has been said before; I personally believe it has more to do with the type of person and their mentality.
I'd take a sea worm any time over a hundred emotionless spinning carriers.

You probably could make someone who would have otherwise not been of a violent disposition more violent through video games but I imagine you'd have to get them at a really young age and intentionally set out to do so; or else just be really, really negligent with their upbringing!

There is a way to make people more violent, and it is as follows:

Whenever you feel like "venting anger" and you do so, rahter then just cool off, you get a bit of satsifaction. This is a "reward". So you reward yourself fro violent acts, then you are more prone to be more violent.

When it comes to games its all just a game :)
