Project Giana (Also Greenlight discussion)
« on: August 30, 2012, 01:36:45 pm »
Project Giana just recently hit their goal on Kickstarter and is now trying to claw its way onto Steam via Steam Greenlight. If you like it, help it get there by supporting it on Greenlight.

Greenlight is such a horrendous mess at the moment, I hope they massively improve it. Really needs a way to a) list games alphabetically (it seems like its just randomly tossed in there) and b) filters for how complete the games are - should be able to tell if a game is finished, in beta, alpha, or pre-alpha just from filters or at a glance.

To say something on topic, I'll check it out. Might need a greenlight thread just for people to post about cool projects to check out though.

I found it reasonably easy to use.  The sheer feeling of "wow that's a lot of submissions to plow through, even making 5-second judgments on the first screenshot" helps me understand why Valve's been so slow to approve/respond-to some things :)

My thing is that I want to sort through games that are finished/near finished, rather than thumbs-up a game that's still trying to get kickstarter funding for instance.

As for the alphabetical thing, it seems like while going through pages I see the same games pop up more than once.

I do agree about the "wow that's a lot of submissions" aspect, it's pretty crazy!

Whether or not Greenlight is helpful or not right now, it certainly does explain why Steam can take forever to get some things done.

I really, really understand Valve better than I did a few days ago.

My god man, this explains why some utterly sheit games get on Steam and some pearls (like Din's Curse) gets rejected again and again. There can't be any way to go through all that junk and make an informed decision everytime without your eyes glazing over and you start flipping coins. xD

Yeah, I suddenly have a better appreciation for what people at Valve and other digital retailers have to deal with. This is insane...

Apparent lesson of the day: If you show people what you have to pick through to find the half-decent games to accept on [Digital Distributor], they understand it a lot faster than a blog post or press release explaining the same thing.

The number of games is pretty horrifying. Though i think some better filters and ways to sort will help things out, it's going to end up relying on game articles to summarize the good things instead of sorting through firsthand for sure though.

Well, I'm not sure whether to be laughing or cringing about that one that i just stumbled across. The page died of reporting already, but for a few minutes someone had monster girl quest 2 in the list. (Don't search for it, nsfw)

WTF is...

Also the core gameplay mechanic seems a lot like Eversion.
I can already tell this is going to be a roller coaster ride of disappointment.

The whole monster girl quest series is one of those guily pleasures you don't mention to anyone...
Life is short. Have fun.
