AI War Varients in genre
« on: June 22, 2010, 04:46:29 pm »
Remember the time of starwars, when they make strategy games, fps games, and mmorpg games that the idea still stays to this date? How about we transfer that idea to AI War, where you can make a mmorpg like Eve Online? How about the idea of a 3d flight simulator in space where you get to shoot lasers? These are few of the many (nah, just few) ideas that you can use the story of AI War to imagine of.

I can already see it: We loyal fans see our precious title get demolished by other developers, and we just happily play the orginal AI War, but does not any of the ideas move your heart? Perhaps you love Eve online or Flight simulators and would just be super happy if it could of come out, not like we would though.

So, What kind of genre change in ai war would you most fantasize about?

Interesting. So you're proposing a game set in the aiwar universe with aiwar-like principles but in a different genre. Hmmm...
I think it's important to say that ai war was build from the ground up to be an rts against a computer. The storyline (not that anyone pays much attention to it) was written with this in mind (I assume) and so did the gameplay mechanics, all the tactics and all that makes AIwar what it is. If it isn't against an AI, it ain't AI war. That means there can be no competitive multiplayer, certainly no PvP combat etc. so an FPS would be limited, as would a mmorpg. The story also deliberately takes a back seat and there is no trade or even any characters other than two computers, so an AI war rpg would fail. Sure, you could add those things, but then it would hardly be based on AI war at all.
The bottom line is that I think chris has made a unique product here that belongs in its own niche. If you want another game, go play another game. If you want another Chris Parker game, I'm sure he can provide. :D

Agreed. What I'd like to see is a full-3d strategy game in space. I don't know if you've read ender's game, but near the end the hero commands a fleet of warships on a huge IMAX-like screen against the alien horde. That game, against an adaptive, evolving ai is what I want to play. Ai war is the closest I've found, but it is 2d so your tactics are slightly more limited.
Evolutionary ai pl0x x4000?  :)

I don't want or expect or need a game like this, if even made it's from another developer paying x for the name ;), as you said it would ruin the game, ai war was meant to be rts, but hey, once ai war get's as famous as starwars, they'll be begging to make a game like that.

Your thinking of Eve Online which does the same thing.  I would not want to see Ai War become an MMO.  Warcraft 3 did that with WoW and I hate Blizzard forever for doing that.

A Sci-fi Roguelike within the AI War sensibilities would surely be interesting when one considers that AI in general for most Roguelikes is severely limited to the point of being just about nonexistent----closest major accomplishments being the Angband Borg/Bot and the like where one can watch it try to beat the game and sometimes manage it with very cautious play and much grinding.
The Roguelike Guy...also hopefully an overall skilled developer as time rolls on.
