One sign you play too much...
« on: February 08, 2015, 05:14:55 pm »
I play too much Dark Souls.

Also about 370 hours played. Glegh. I dunno why I did that. But I guess it was when I realized I was 3 achievements away from simply playing.

Well I've played AI War for 2435 hours and I've dreamt about it at least 3 times and I still haven't had enough. I have only 85/322 of the achievements though but on the other hand I've never been an achievement person.

I've never been much of an achievement person either. It was just the fact that I suddenly realized I only had 3 to go that made me go for the last three. As far as AI War goes, I'd be very surprised if anyone has ALL of them. That has to take a ridiculous amount of time.

I've never gotten achievements at all. I had a brief achievement phase when TF2 gave you items for getting achievements, but as soon as that was over I never looked at the damn things again, anywhere, ever.

That said, I play way too much. Achievements may not do anything for me, but I absolutely HAVE HAVE HAVE to get my hands on new toys and tinker and customise and experiment and have fun with them. Combining different Mutations/Weapons in Nuclear throne, kitting out a team of mercs in Jagged Alliance, building ships in Gimbal, or tweaking gear in Warframe...that kind of stuff makes me spend dozens, if not hundreds of hours on games.

But I never notice until another exam is two days away and I have to peel myself away from the games in a moment of "What, I'm supposed to ACTUALLY get to work now?".

Only game I ever got all achievements on Steam ie. 100% for (And tried hard..) was DUST: An Elysian Tail .. and that was a lot harder than it would seem. I kinda totally get you ;) When I notice I am close to all achievements I also sometimes try.. but I got cured fast when the one game where that happened was Deus Ex: Human Revolution.. finding all books and not killing anyone in a 30hr+ game.. I dunno if it's just bad luck, but I had enemies die from stumbling down a stair-well after I put them to sleep and not notice that until I was done with the level and wanted to go outside... argh!

I have however absolutely no ability to invest myself in free to play games.. I dunno what it is, but whenever I see free to play my brain shuts down that aspect of my personality and I have literally no attachment to that game. I am probably the f2p makers worst nightmare.

I guess I shouldn't say that my other 100%-ed game is Deus Ex: Human Revolution (Director's Cut) xD

The last time I tried to 100% a game, it was Defense Grid: The Awakening. However, half way through my attempt, the game bugged up and refused to award me an achievement. Ever since then, I've been hesitant to try again with any other game. It would have to be one that I really enjoyed.

The closest games I've come to 100%ing are Hate+ (just missing the achievement for completing *Mute's route as both genders and the impossible one) and Portal 2.

A lot of the games I play are RPGs, in which I refuse to complete some achievements for ethical reasons, e.g. I'll never get the one for having all Daedric artifacts in Skyrim because you have to murder a lot of people to do that.

I'm generally not very completionist.
I can already tell this is going to be a roller coaster ride of disappointment.

I never did consider myself a competionist, but I guess I have a streak of it. My playthrough of Giana Sisters almost had me obsess over getting every possible gem on every level.

I was afraid that would happen with Knight's Honor in Dark Souls. A lot of people have reported the achievement not triggering in spite of them having every rare weapon in their inventory. Thankfully, mine worked and popped up just as the Channeler's Trident finally dropped.
